Captured this image of a banded guitarfish back in 2018 in the Sea of Cortez. This trip was jam-packed with awesome critters and I barely knew how to use my camera to capture them. Might be time for a return trip.

#Mexico expedition sights only 6 to 8 #vaquita #porpoises, the most endangered #marinemammal
Last year, experts on a sighting expedition estimated they saw from 10 to 13 of the tiny, shy, elusive porpoises during nearly two weeks of sailing in the #GulfOfCalifornia, also known as the #SeaOfCortez. This is close-up of the skin of a Panamic Cushion Star. I found this one in the Gulf of California, which is the northern limit of their range. Sea Stars are always fun to watch, especially their tube feet as they move across the ocean floor.

This California sea lion came down to say hello on a dive in the Gulf of California. We saw many of these charismatic creatures, with the females and juveniles coming over to check us out and blow bubbles at us while the big males patrolled the area making sure we didn't try any funny business.
