oh my fuck, seafile stopped working on the new server and I couldn't figure out why, and it looks like I'm hitting a weird ass corner case

apparently if you use ZFS as host filesystem, overlayfs2 has some bug that causes it to not be able to delete/mask opaque directories. I guess I should move to docker's native ZFS driver.. but ugh that could break a bunch more things. I guess I'll try more things later this weekend.

Ich verstehe eh nicht, warum #NextCloud so beliebt ist. Vielleicht weil es viele Features hat und daher in der Theorie auch sehr viele use Cases abbilden kann. In der Praxis läuft es halt wie von dir beschrieben.

Für File Sync gibt es im #Linux/Open-Source-Bereich viele gute Lösungen. Die Frage ist immer wer oder was auf der anderen Seite ist. #Syncthing #Seafile #Filen oder #Unison #rsync

Mit Web-Anwendungen habe ich weniger Erfahrung, aber Webmailer gibt es auch bessere.

I you’re using the sync client, then I’d warn against calling it a backup. (hope I’ve understood it correctly)

Yes, agreed. I only use #nextcloud as a means to provide web ( & #webdav access to my file server) for those moments that I desperately want a file whilst on the move.

The next task is to upgrade #seafile to v12 😆

Happy #seafile user here, for many years. I have tried many times to switch to #nextcloud for file syncing, but keep returning to Seafile due to issues with Nextcloud desktop client.

Für #Seafile Syncs hab ich noch das APK von SynchronizeUltimate daliegen (App ist aus dem Store verschwunden) und damit startet der Sync, aber es ist unglaublich langsam. Braucht für jeden Ordner ungefähr eine Minute - und jetzt ratet mal aus wie vielen Ordnern eine 70gb MP3-Sammlung so besteht. Das ist keine Lösung. Och ffs ey. Ich will #Seafile in #Docker mit einem #apache-#Proxy in einer #virtuellenMaschine installieren (weil ich das Testen will und nur Chuck Norris in Prod testet). Warum geht das nicht wenigstens halbwegs out-of-the-box?

Auch ohne den apache-Proxy klappt das nicht. (Edit: da spielt ja jetzt immer noch ein #caddy mit rum, bei dem nicht dokumentiert ist, ob ich ihn wirklich brauche, wenn hinter apache, oder wie da die Einstellungen sein müssen.)

Ich empfehle für #nextcloud mindestens einen #RaspberryPi 4B mit 4GB RAM. Alles andere läuft, aber ist nicht so performant.

Abhängig davon was du machen möchtest, könnte ich als #Cloud auch noch #Seafile empfehlen. Das läuft bei mir auf einem Pi 4B/4GB trotz #Docker sehr gut

I have just discovered #SeaFile https://www.seafile.com/en/home/ and I consider it a valid alternative to #Nextcloud. On #Proxmox, it appears much lighter than Nextcloud, and the #Debian application also seems more streamlined… Are you familiar with it? Any suggestions? Any thoughts?
