So we had started a Fork from #searxng a while back.
we named it Gitee (/giti/) in Persian (گیتی) which means universe in Persian.
You can check it from here:
https://search.parchlinux.com/
and the upstream source code is hosted here:
https://github.com/parchlinuxb/gitee
we might make it the default search engine on Parch Linux :)
Also we would happy to hear your thoughts on this.
V rámci degooglifikace jsem namísto #Google search zkusil pár dní nastavit #Qwant. Relevance výsledků proti #SearxNG naprosto strašná a ještě má omezenej počet výsledků.
Archosovo searxng.cz dává výsledky podstatně lepší .. takže zatím přecházím na něj. Uvidíme, jak si povede dlouhodobě
After I managed that I connected #yacy with my #searxng instance. Unfortunately yacy is inherently slow, which impacts search requests in general.
The weird way it's gathering results from other peers actually will cause a timeout on the first search with the search terms (unless you set a timeout of 10 seconds or so), but on further refined search passes it's able to provide results in line with other search engines. Kinda weird.
You can try that out under https://search.wilderland.ovh
@parismarx hey, I listened to the System Crash episode from May 23rd yesterday (a little bit behind on my podcasts...), where at some point you briefly talk about search engines you have been trying out, including ecosia and qwant.
Not sure, what else you have tried, so I thought maybe I just throw in two that I have experiemented with and had great success. Perhaps you already know them. But those were not mentioned in the podcast. Until the european Open Search Index is ready, there unfortunately is no perfect solution, but meta-search engines have been the best compromise for me personally until then.
Obviously you still rely on big tech to some extent, but at least you diversify the reliance a little bit. Sometimes, this also takes the form of competitive compatibility, which is a notion I really like towards big tech.
#SearX/#SearXng is of course great and extremely customizable, open source and self hostable (for trying out, here is a German provider: https://gruble.de/).
Personally, I have been using #MetaGer, a German meta search engine, for quite a while now. I like the minimal and brutalist-esque UI of it. For me, it just gets the job done for me, both in my personal life and in my academic life. A little disclaimer here: MetaGer is run by a German NGO, which I joined as a passive member a few months back, because I really like their mission. They also plan to create a new search engine, entirely based on the Open Search Index, called "nolm" (no LLM), which will also find its way as a search provider into MetaGer.
I do have some little gripes with MetaGer, which I remedied with my own flimsy solution stacked on top of it, which provides me with a similar feature like DDG's "Bangs".
Anyways, thanks for the great podcast and this episode in particular, which was very entertaining.
I think #yacy has potential as a search engine, but I really have to check how I could get this to run reliably. The results it gave me were at least interesting, but both on my vps and on my desktop it became unusable within 20 minutes or so. I feel like I am doing something wrong there.
Instead I installed #searxng, which is a self-hosted metasearch engine. And it works quite well, but it still is dependent on huge companies.
FYI - For Your Information.
I regularly answer to a #toot with just a bunch of #hashtags related to the content or media of the said #post.
It's not only a matter of search engine optimization (#SEO), but also a stake of #findability for this #content.
If search engines (#DuckDuckGo, #Kagi, #SearxNG...) may index your #Mastodon account, according to you settings,
the software itself does not index a toot unless it has a #hashTag.

@andypiper I didn't coin it, but I appreciate its aptness to current events. I don't like it. However, while enduring the unfolding dystopia, some small things have brought me a measure of hope. Things like, my @murena phone, the #fediverse, selling my swasticar, motherfucking #SearxNG, and my youngest finding punk rock.
The world is going to hell in a handbasket, but there are tiny pockets hither and thither that help make the journey slightly more comfortable. =/

👉 Sécurisation au niveau des headers proxy ;
👉 Limitation des catégories de recherche ;

I’m experimenting with #mediawiki and wanting to somehow bring it on my #searxng search results. I think I’ve done the configuration correctly. But it returns timeout error on the result page smh.
Gerade mal #SearXNG geupdated... Das ist wirklich eine coole Software :)
