Reform candidate expelled over social media posts

Reform UK has expelled its candidate in a Sefton council by-election after “unacceptable” comments surfaced on social media.
The party confirmed it had removed its support for Irene Davidson, who was due to stand as a candidate in the Blundellsands by-election on 19 June.
Davidson’s X account has now been deleted.
Some of the posts from Davidson’s account, seen by the BBC, included a cartoon of King Charles labelled as a traitor, and calls for Islam to be “eradicated” from the UK.
Despite being expelled from the party, Davidson will still appear on the ballot paper as Reform UK’s candidate as the papers have already been printed.

Over £7.4m has been secured for new bike lanes, footpaths, and active travel infrastructure across the #Liverpool City Region, including #Halton, #Knowsley, #Liverpool, #Sefton, St Helens, and #Wirral. This funding, from the government’s Active #Travel Fund, will improve connections between existing and planned routes, promoting #walking, #cycling, and wheeling as safer alternatives to car use. Additional funds will support projects like #cycle safety training, secure bike parking, and social prescribing schemes for health and wellbeing. The investment is part of a wider plan to create a 600km network of walking and cycling routes, with 148km already delivered. This forms part of Mayor Rotheram’s plan for an integrated, London-style #transport system. Other major investments include over 100 zero-emission #buses, a new Mersey Ferry, and improvements to St Helens town centre and the Liverpool Baltic rail station.

Four draught #horses owned by Mr. Hugh Hanna, a farmer at Sefton, were stung to death by #bees yesterday morning, says a Press Association message from Christchurch. Mr. Hanna was driving a five-horse team along a road when about thirty colonies of bees left their hives in a section adjoining the road and attacked the team. Mr. Hanna, though badly stung himself, liberated the leaders, which bolted for their stables, but three others were blinded instantly and were stung to death in the chains. One of those freed died before reaching the stables, and the other is in a critical condition. The only reason that can be assigned for the vicious attack is that the honey in the hives was removed two days ago and the bees were still angry at their loss. As Mr. Hanna is only a small farmer his loss is heavy.
