Hi @MTZ , #selfhosting could be a move in the right direction for you. I started managing my own servers over 10 years ago, locally, from my home, later VPS and finally again from my home. Eventually I moved toward @yunohost - it simplifies a lot of things! I documented some my experiences at https://wasi.ovh
Start small: setup file/photo sync (@nextcloud), calendars and contacts and gradually start adding data from old backups once you feel comfortable.

Quick checklist:
- Check Apache logs; if they are split like mine, `tail -f /var/log/apache2/*access.log` works well. Tools like `apachetop` may be useful.
- Use a bad bot blocking list such as https://github.com/mitchellkrogza/apache-ultimate-bad-bot-blocker . My conf add `bad_bot` to logs when detected.
- Automatically ban IPs at the firewall level (e.g., with Fail2ban).
- Once you have a list of IPs, look for subnetworks.
- Tune server parameters, like `KeepAliveTimeout`.
- Put your health before the machine.
One of the applications I stumbled across on my #YunoHost server is #AdGuard, which for those that might not be familiar is a whole-network ad-blocking tool. It works by acting as a DNS server for all your connected devices. Once it’s up and running you basically point your router to use the AdGuard as your DNS instead of your regular upstream server. Extra #privacy is a bonus too.
I already have a PiHole but I’d say AdGuard is way more user friendly and intuitive.

When I decided to self-host a Git server, #GitLab was the first option I tried, as it was familiar to me from my day job. I launched it on an old Intel NUC with only 2 GB of memory... And started to search for lighter alternatives. So here I am with a #Gitea instance that hosts my old repositories from #GitHub as well as a lot of private repos with different stuff. Gitea is fast, lightweight, single-binary, and has everything I need, including GitHub-compatible CI/CD.
