An image in landscape format: the left-hand bottom two-thirds of the frame shows a Red-legged Partridge perched on the top of a grey lichen-encrusted drystane dyke. The partridge is viewed partly from the front but mainly side-on, facing right but with the head turned slightly to look at the camera. They are typically about 32-34cm in length; it has pinkish/grey/brown upperparts and crown, boldly striped black, white and chestnut flanks, a chestnut belly, and white chin and throat bordered with black, with black spotting spreading like a necklace on a whitish breast, and a red beak and feet.
It'a a dull day; the slightly out-of-focus background is a typical farm wooden post-and-wire fence, with taller steel-mesh fencing attched in front; beyond that, low rough light-green grass and faded taller decayed high grass stalks.
