Imagine opening a cluttered Google Doc where everything looks scrambled and overwhelming. For someone with a visual processing disorder, that’s what their brain feels like almost every time it tries to interpret what the eyes are seeing.

I just published a new article on Medium: “Craving Fire: Autism, ADHD, and My Unusual Appetite for Taste”.
It’s about how I live the intersection of AuDHD, sensory processing, and food — why I crave bold flavors, avoid water, and constantly seek the new.

I keep finding the music in cafes and shops extra loud at the moment. I can't tell if the volume is turned up everywhere in summer, or if I am currently more sensitive to sound and thus perceive it as louder. What is especially bothersome is that music is pumped outside as well as inside in summer, so there is no break and this makes it harder to calm my sensory system between locations.

Did you know there’s a BIG difference between autistic compulsions and OCD? 💡 As an autistic person, my routines, safe foods, and rewatching the same shows help me feel calm and in control — they’re comforting, not fear-based.
