Tomorrow is a day worth not celebrating. The death of innocents - no matter what language they speak - is not to be celebrated. Unjust wars based on lies and deception are not to be celebrated. The formation of a whole new department of government whose sole purpose is oppression is sure as hell not to be celebrated, nor is the imposition of bullshit security theatre on the whole damn world.
If there's anything to celebrate tomorrow it's civilian first responders - those who, in uniform or not, *show up* when the fit hits the shan, and lay down time, money, and sometimes lives for the greater good of their fellow sentient.... and the spirit of community in neighbourhoods and cities large and small that says to each other, "we stand together"... and who also says "fuck you" to anyone who wants to mess with them. Then it was New York. For the last few weeks it's been LA. Now it's Chicago. New York built back better. LA ran the boots off.
There are *songs* about messing with Chicago.
I hope there are a few more when this is over.
AND it is time to forget all the jingoism, the beating of chests, the security theatre. It is time to remember who we are as _people_, time to remember how to _care_ for one another - as if we were One Tribe.
