In Catholic Europe its mostly catholic #pancake ( #crepes in france) day as it symbolizes the sun. In Mexican tradition its tamales.
Setsubun is a day where you throw beans either adzuki red beans or roasted soy beans depending the region at someone dressed as an oni (japanese ogre) as a way to send bad luck out of your house and eat unsliced sushi rolls for long life, along with other foods depending on the region.
So have some pancakes or crepes for breakfast, and tamales for lunch and some sushi for dinner, maybe the groundhog will bring you some magic beans to throw at the oni for luck.

"Setsubun" Day Celebrates the transition from winter to spring and is marked by rituals to drive away demons.

Typically, families gather and hold a bean-throwing ceremony, chanting 'Oni wa soto, Fuku wa uchi'.

This is believed to drive away bad luck and bring good fortune.

Today is Setsubun (節分), the day before spring in the old calendar in Japan. As always, we followed the tradition of eating Ehomaki sushi (handmade by a local restaurant/cafe). One eats the roll without talking, while facing the year’s lucky direction.
Upon pickup, the shop owner even threw in a free bowl of handmade kimchi. 👍

We had preordered two ehomaki rolls at the restaurant: bulgogi (left) and vegetable (right).

The owner graciously threw in a free additional bowl of handmade kimchi ✨

The lucky direction for 2025, which one should face while quietly eating the ehomaki, is west-south-west (written here in Japanese, “sei-nan-sei”).
