When you know how you can easily restore the coffee shop's cute "antique" sewing machine decor into a working piece of hardware. 🤔#sewing #sewingmachine #ReduceRepairReuseRecycle
Anyone have any experience with a #bernina 600 #sewingmachine (1963 #vintage green beige version)?
I'm struggling to understand if the #lever for setting left—middle—right and the straight—zigzag knows should turn independently or at the same time. Might need repairing, but how ?
The other models I tried:
Pfaff Expression 710: the dealer told me he thinks it's no good. Fine.
Some Brother: it felt sloppy and not as tight and solid as the other machines.
Janome Skyline S5: the dealer was selling me heavily on this one. It was a hard decision, but I went in favor of the Juki, because the UI seemed a little more efficient and the motor a bit more powerful. The Janome had more embroidery stitches and did a better job with letters, but I don't really care about that. It was also slightly larger and heavier, which isn't a plus in my tiny sewing space.
All of these were in the approx 1000 € price range.
Hey, there are numbers here, ha ha. (Singer 201 sewing machine. Restored the ability to see stitches per inch reading using some acrylic paint wiped over etched lines). #ReduceRepairReuseRecycle #sewing #sewingmachine
She’s fixed 💚 ordered a belt replacement. Took two tries to get a better tension. But perhaps the leather will stretch and will need more adjustments? We’ll see
Time for some sewing machine porn!

That's a slant needle Singer from the early 60s, nicely restored. It was programmable! By loading different "fashion discs" which were patterned plastic wheels that would mechanically shift the needle left and right during forward motion, resulting in different stitch patterns.
The needle was slanted towards the user for a much better view and more ergonomic use than on modern machines.
@niqdanger Quilters love those sewing machines. I have a Singer 15-91 (~1950) converted to be hand cranked. (Plus 4 more recent sewing machines.)
Ha, now that I've restored a vintage Singer (201), I am able to look at something like this and see that this is a likely straightforward restoration project.
Clean, remove rust, oil, change the electric cord, hopefully the motor still works, find a belt that fits, and you have a fine working heavy duty sewing machine. I wonder if there's a local market for restored Singers? (they weigh a ton... so not something you'd want to ship).

On the plus side: lubricating the cam most certainly affected things. I can see the change in how much the foot is pushing below the needle plate. So, it will just be more lubricating and/or removal of old crusty grease if this doesn't go to full range of motion. Nothing broken here, just gummed up a bit. #sewingmachine #restoration
Okay. Coffee break and sewing machine lubrication. It is working better, but not fully there yet. Will let the lubrication work itself through the system. May have to remove some old grease if this does not do the trick. #sewingmachine #sewing #restoration #singer201
Thanks to Mr. Bob Fowler on YouTube, I know exactly what the problem is. Will have to find time in between real 9-5 work today to go fix it. There's a mechanical CAM which controls stitch length here, and it clear is frozen or not moving very well. That's just a lubrication issue. I did not lubricate inside there, looks like there are three contact points (should be accessible from the front panel). Since nothing was broken (or likely to break) on these machines, it's almost 100% just not enough lubrication.
It's alive! It's alive! #sewingmachine #sewing #singer #restoration
No bobbin winding o ring yet, but check this out! Can't hold the material and film at the same time, but the Singer 201 is running that needle through two thick layers of old wool hiking sock. #sewingmachine #restoration #sewing
