One of my favourite places when I go to Brighton, the old West Pier, is such a quiet place

The image shows a quiet pebble beach facing the sea on a clear day. Far out in the water stands the rusted metal skeleton of a collapsed pier, fragile and haunting against the blue horizon. In front of it, several tall, dark metal pillars rise from the water, a few topped with resting seabirds. At the edge of the pebbles, small human figures are barely visible, as if blending into the landscape. The colours are muted with film grain, giving the scene a nostalgic, reflective mood — a moment of silent observation.

Qu’y a-t-il de plus poétique que cet arrimage de la nature à des objets produits pas l’homme? Ceux-ci sont souvent d’abord conçus pour leur fonction, leur rigidité contrastant avec la légèreté et la spontanéité du détournement végétal.

Sur les berges de l’étang se trouvait un banc, démuni et cabossé, pourtant sans signe d’usure. Il y a été mis là dans l’espoir d’apporter du réconfort aux âmes esseulées. Ne subsiste que l’utopie de rencontres en retrait de la route. Celle qui longe ces étendues d’eau où seuls se répondent les reflets des arbres environnants.
