Challenge #04776-M027: Words of Peace

They were an ordinary human, and loved to learn languages. They even learned the elven tongues, some fae language, the native tongue of kobolds, even voulspeak. Which allowed them to make quite a few friends, and helped otherwise distrustful to accept their kindness. -- Lessons
They should have been a Bard, and everyone said so. They insisted that Peony should sing... until she did. Unfortunately for Peony Black, they had the singing and musical instrument talent of a duck.

Peony's talent was languages. Not just translating the words, but also the cultural meaning. It was truly a gift.

They could learn a language new to them at record speed. At first speaking a broken version of it and, by the end of the week, speaking it like they were born to it. Of course, people wondered how Peony managed to get that gift in the first place.

The reality TV game show host and former three-term president was grumpy. And not just because the makeup artist used the wrong orange skin tone on him or that his show's ratings were lousy. 📉

Sacré bleu! I'll never forget that morning. Alarms were ringing at the Louvre, with security guards running back and forth. It wasn't the first time this had happened. So I knew it was another heist. ✍️

The painter of the universe, known as Life, just wanted to fulfill her reason for being, by creating a universe full of beautiful wonders and living things, but her twin brother, Death, exists solely to destroy her work, leading to an intractable argument about whose work should prevail.

@bookstodon

(Left) The Cover of Emergent Consequences, by Owen Tyme, illustrated by Ryan Johnson.

Life and Death lay asleep in a the grass, the way they lay slightly resembling the yin-yang symbol. The tools of their trades are scattered around them.

Life is a woman with black hair, in a white robe. Behind her are the paint brush and palette she paints the universe with. She's rather short and has rosy cheeks.

Death is a skeleton in a black robe, which appears to be continually disintegrating at the hem line. Behind him lay his scythe and scroll of names.

Between Life and Death is the hourglass that serves as the source of time for the entire universe, an item that's most commonly carried by Death, but which is part of the work of both of them.

The artwork is cartoonish, with some bushes and a tree that has one red piece of fruit dangling from it. The scene is looked upon by the sun, which frowns at everything.

(Right) The background is an image of some green bacteria with the following quote over the top:

"I think I'll call it Ted."

"Ted? You want to name micro-organism Ted? Are you serious?"

"Yes, Ted."

"Alright, I just thought Bob would fit better."

BCS Archives: "Silent, Still, and Cold" by Kris Dikeman, BCS #62.

"A group of officers cluster below the mark on the wall. One balances an inkpot, another copies the symbol onto parchment, a third notes its location on a map of the city. Nearby is a patch of bloody ice splashed against the stones next to an odd-shaped bundle of rags, the buckles of a Legionnaire's uniform winking out. We stare, and the officer with the map waves us away."

Challenge #04775-M026: Show Me What You Got

The entire species' culture was that of raiders and conquers. The humans challenged their champions... to a dance-battle?? -- Anon Guest
The cool thing about warrior cultures is that they have honour codes. Once you know the honour code, you're halfway towards gaining an understanding. Understanding is one of the keys to friendship and peace.

Humans will also pack-bond with
ANYTHING.

When these two factors join, you get interesting encounters. Such as the confrontation on DF9405YJ-5 between the Humans and the Dolravyn. They had a code of honour that involved champions facing each other in tests of skill. The duels in that manner could get interesting because different species have different tests of skills.
