Hey everyone. Playing some more #SilentHope on Twitch tonight, if anyone is interested.
This isn't a deep game, but they really put attention into all the details and that's what makes it so enjoyable to play. Simple things like the trees wobbling and making a cute noise when you hit them is so charming. So many dungeon crawlers go for the grimdark Soulslike knockoff look, I'm glad they went in a different direction. Definitely worth the 40 hours of play time. #SilentHope
#SilentHope I've made it down to floor 25 of 29 but still need to do some more grinding for weapons & materials before I can make it down to the bottom for sure. The last few floors were monster rushes - one for each of the previous areas so actually pretty easy, but with no fire they have to be done every time you want to make a run at the final boss. What makes the Ruined Castle harder than all the others is of course the longer levels, but also the mix of elements. Harder to plan equipment.
#SilentHope Made it down one more fire, but it's tough going. Taking a lot of damage on certain characters - usually when I'm miss-aiming my attacks. Alchemist is almost unusable because his defence is so low. I thought the level cap was 30 on the first playthrough because of one of the challenges, but I guess not because Wanderer has hit 31. That makes sense, I mean you'd need more skill points to max out three skills. Paladin has become my most reliable character.
#SilentHope Made it down to the third fire at floor 16 in the ruined castle although it was quite a push at the end. Still only using the weapons I got from the previous layer so time to go back and grind a bit to get new ones. A couple characters have hit level cap at 30 but the archer is still languishing at around level 23. A bit funny that Marvelous decided to introduce their sheep mascot character Wooly down here in the final levels instead of as a beginner mob like in most of their games.
#SilentHope Man, this game is great when you are depressed and just want to do something mindless. Anyway, beat the cat-gryphon boss of the third layer and ventured in to the fourth and final layer as far as the first fire. I can't believe it's 29 levels, but at least the first ones are quick. The environments of every level have been great, but this one is particularly atmospheric.
#SilentHope Getting closer to the end of the Burning layer. Cleared down to the lv16 fire and then grinded (ground?) those two last floors a few times. Tried the final boss, but had the wrong elements equipped. Tired so just did some more grinding today, this time in search of Legendary weapons & crab claws to make them with. Turns out me compulsively collecting everything on the early levels has paid off - now I can reduce some of my 500 jars of honey to runes whenever I get low.
#SilentHope Made it down to the second fire in the fourth zone and then did some grinding for crafting materials while half-listening to hockey. I need burning bunny tails. Why do they drop so rarely and why do I need so many just to make earrings?? Going to try making a push for the bottom next, so I can take a look at the boss.
#SilentHope Did some equipment upgrades and made it down to the first fire of the fourth layer. The floors are getting so long I don't think I can keep up my habit of completely clearing every floor every time. Just doing those six floors took me 40 mins, although I did it with just 3 characters this time. I'll get faster once I've memorized the floor layouts and gotten better equipment going, but I also have to be more careful about resource management.
I cleared Frozen World top to bottom once to get enough materials for some more equipment before going into the next zone. It was, predictably, another big difficulty jump. The floors are longer, there are fewer crystals and healing animals, and enemies do more damage. I went through four characters just clearing the first three floors and nearly wiped. I prefer the floor being lava mechanic over the snowballs though. Need to upgrade my existing equipment all the way. #SilentHope
#SilentHope Figured out what happened to that recipe I couldn't find. Turns out I already had it, but you have to also *make* the food once. *facepalm* The reward for clearing that challenge? The recipe for Tea, which adds freezing resistance. Which would have been super useful *before* I finished the ice zone. :corgidesk: Well, on we go...
I now have the choice again of trying to push into the fourth layer a bit with my best jobs equipped or going back through the third layer to get some more materials to equip the remainders. I don't want the level disparity to get too high either. This is kind of a thing with me: I don't like winter/ice zones so I kinda want to just move on to the lava/summer stage. #SilentHope
#SilentHope Cleared the third layer boss with Alchemist. The invulnerability shield was a big help for her carpet-bombing style of attacks, as did not having to get in close to do damage. I also went back and found a build of Archer that I can live with and got it up to level 19 like the rest. I've cleared the second layer at least four times top to bottom now and still haven't gotten the recipe mentioned in a challenge to drop. IDK if I'm missing something or what.
But ninja-maid "Trickster" is seriously very fun as a glass cannon, she has this dash-strike ability Sneak Attack that has no cooldown if it's a KO, so you can just use it repeatedly to clear through a bunch of enemies in a row (again, so long as you don't mis-aim...). It's very satisfying. She also has Dancing Blades which has swords floating around her spinning doing damage, and you can do a basic attack at the same time, killing enemies before they can touch you. #SilentHope
#SilentHope I've died to the third area's final boss twice now. She's basically Shiva and I was very proud of myself for figuring out when she does a huge AOE ice attack you can hide behind pillars to take no damage. The first time there was no way I was going to make it, I had the wrong element equipped and the ninja-maid has zero defensive/control abilities (despite being very fun). The second time I went in with Paladin who is less of a glass cannon and got her down to about 5% health.

#SilentHope One great thing about this game is you can respec skill points whenever for no cost, including mid-dungeon, and also change which three skills are equipped. You can have a huge variety of playstyles and strategies that way. There is a third class per character that you unlock when you beat the game the first time - there are two higher difficulty levels to progress to after that, it seems.
