For #SchiffsSamstag here's the superyacht Artefact docked in Philipsburg, St Maarten a couple of weeks ago. She was quite a striking and unusual sight and was the subject of a huge number of photos from everyone disembarking our cruise ship to head ashore.

Artefact is owned by Mike Lazaridis, co-founder of Research in Motion and former co-CEO of BlackBerry.

It's an overcast day with a few patches of blue sky, but it's hot and humid here. We're looking across a stretch of grass, patchy with dry spots in places. In the distance there are some small hills rising but they're mostly obscured by the superyacht that's moored in front with its upper decks visible but most of its hull below the level of the ground we're gazing past. The yacht structure is broadly white in colour but where it has large glass windows they're tinted almost to black, probably for privacy. The effect is almost as if a large block of smoky quartz were broken up by slices of white decking arranged almost organically, slightly offset vertically. A central column seems to show a central atrium on the yacht of four decks with window shapes as if rectangles had been stretched and warped and twisted. A very strange-looking ship.

Nick Maley was a special effects make-up artist who worked on horror and sci-fi films such as Lifeforce, Highlander, the awesome Krull, and the Star Wars movies where he is closely associated with Yoda. He runs a museum of memorabilia, props, photos, storyboards, scripts, etc. and we visited today while in Phillipsburg, Sint Maarten. Nerd heaven, and we had a great chat with him too.

In green-blue lighting we're looking at a movie prop, a prosthetic mask of an alien with a tapering snout for a mouth, two huge eyes, a bobbled skin head with two, short trumpet-like antennae on it, and two pointed ears on the head's side. It is Greedo from the Star Wars films. A clapperboard from a movie is behind.

Today we've been in Phillipsburg on the Caribbean island shared by the Dutch and French with this being the Dutch side, Sint Maarten. Colourful street art and architecture have been the main attractions for us plus a couple of visits to museums (more on one of those in the next post) but it has been scorching today, feeling like 38 degrees. If there was a market for our sweat then we could retire.

We're in an old city street, narrow and pedestrianised with some lamp posts along the centre and a vintage American car in bright yellow parked up as a display attraction outside a two-storey building with orange lower floor and grey-tiled upper. The building behind is a riot of bright colours - yellow, pinks, greens, blues - and has a colourful balcony on its second floor. It's bright and sunny and feels hot.
