We started at 4 in the morning: five persons, five bikes and five pairs of ski in one car direction Dischmatal near Davos. To our surprise the road up there was already opened, so we skipped the cycling up part. After a kilometer hiking there was finally enough snow to mount the skins. There we ascended the Scalettahorn. Absolutely perfect weather and great views. Due to the high temperatures the time on the summit had to be short.
Back at the car four lucky guys used their bikes to go back to Davos.
Now I am back home enjoying icecream and coffee in the shadows of the house. It's round about 28°C...

The sun rises over a mountain ridge at our first break. The Alpenrosen are already uncovered.Looking down to the Dischmatal. A snow covered ridge in the foreground. Very blue sky with some tiny cumulus. The summit ridge of the Scalettahorn. There are three people on the summit, one of them walks in my direction. The ridge is snow covered and rather narrow. A little bit below the very top some dark grey rocks are visible. My pair of skis at the border of the snow coverage after skiing down. In the background the high snow covered mountains we were less than an hour ago.
The most demanding ski tour I’ve ever done was in April 2019 at Paistunturi Wilderness Area, Finland. Everything started well, but the weather took a quick turn, with temperatures rising well above freezing, causing the snow to melt rapidly. Our initial plan was to hike through the area and end up in Utsjoki, a small village just 100 km north of our starting location. However, we had to turn back midway through the tour as it seemed we would not have enough snow to ski on. We rushed back to our starting location in a frenzy, wading through melting snow and icy streams of water. It was the toughest hike, but at the same time, one of the best!

3/3 On day three I had planned to ascend the Daubenhorn. However the drift snow looked quite scary in the morning shadows, so I decided to climb the Lämmerenhorn instead and decide afterwards what to do. Most of the people who started with us at the hut went up the Wildstrubel, therefore we had a further summit in private. After skiing down to the Lämmerenboden we realised that there was almost no drift snow up to the Daubenhorn. The shadows mislead me. So we decided to climb it until 13:30 and to turn around after that to reach a train not too late in the evening. Highly motivated I went all in and we reached the ski depot just below the summit at 13:27. The short ascend and the astonishing views were an absolute must at that point. So the point of return had to be delayed a little bit.

2/3 The second day was packed with two summits and quite a lot of kilometers. We were the first who ascended the "Lämmerental" this morning. At the "Rote Totz Lücke" there are just some meters left before the summit of "Rote Totz". However, due to the snow conditions we needed to mount our skis to our backpacks and climb over the ridge there. Due to a strong wind gust the time on the summit was short. The more down we skied the more enjoyable became the snow. At the "Daubensee" we mounted the skins and ascended the "Alte Gemmi". The wind of the night had blown away all the snow on some parts so the ascend was a little bit challenging on some parts. Up the Furggentäli we were completely by ourselves. Clouds and snow were hunted up the valley by strong winds. Due to the amount of snow in the air by the wind gust our stay at the top was again quite short.
Skiing back down to the "Daubensee" was enjoyable on the upper part and more rough at the end. Finally a long walk back to the hut, again with cake, coffee and Suure Moscht.

1/3 I found finally some time to write this post of the ski touring days I spent with a friend near the Wildstrubel at the end of March.
We stood up early and took the first bus / train to Adelboden. Lucky us we enjoyed the space and comfort of an old 1st class waggon which had been relabeled as 2nd class for that train. In Adelboden we took the cable car up to Engstligen Alp. There we directly left the ski resort and ascended direction "Tschigellochtighore". From there we skied down into the valley of the other side of the ridge and made a bigger break before mounting the skin again. Now up to the "Rote Totz Lücke" and finally skiing down to the SAC hut "Lämmerenhütte". Our base for the next two days. Enjoying yummy plum cake, coffee and "Suure Moscht" (Cider) in the sun were the perfect refreshment.

Elevation gain: 1100m
Elevation loss: 540m

Silvretta '25 continued with a ski tour from Jamtalhutte to Kronenjoch and to Ischgl. Long tour (just descend to Ischgl is 19km), but wonderful time. Skiing lines on the other side of Kronenjoch look fantastic. I will there next year.
Here are some pictures from my son.

This. Every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

"Adventurer's trek claim 'ignorant', say islanders"

David Hempleman-Adams' daughter Camilla had an astonishingly expensive holibob ski-touring a Canadian island, and made some grandiose claims about being the first woman to do so. Cue the somewhat surprised locals, who pointed out that their womenfolk - and even men - have been doing it on a yearly basis since before history was invented.

Note also the politician's apology:

"I am truly saddened that the coverage of my journey may have caused concern or upset..."

Well, no: the upset is mainly about the claims you made, not the journey or its coverage.

Crisp air, untouched snow, and the morning sun casting long shadows through a quiet alpine landscape. After breaking trail through deep powder, moments like these are the reward—light, silence, and space to breathe. Do you prefer winter’s solitude or the warmth of summer in the mountains?

After a long struggle with myself I decided to go with the three participants (minimum number is four) of my cancelled SAC tour on a private tour despite a rather bad weather forecast. And for once the most positive variant of the forecast came true. Partly clear at night, sunny and not in the stream of the Föhn.
Started with low expectations all of them were surpassed by far. What a great day we had.
The youngest (13 years) did great with his splitboard, not too much motivation was needed especially remarkable due to the absence of other kids and the weight of the board.
850m EG and almost 12km in total. Well done.
After that returning to the Rhine valley with more than 20°C almost felt a little bit surrealistic.
