While I’m looking forward to this, Apple still needs multi app support in Slide Over: “iPadOS 26.2 will be releasing imminently, and with that update, the same gestures to open apps in Split View and Slide Over that used to exist are now back. It still works within the Windowing system, so it’s not exactly the same, but it’s incredibly similar.”

#Apple #iPad users. If the lack of multiple apps in the 26.1 slide over window annoys you, please leave feedback! Beta testers have access to the feedback app, otherswise use apple.com/feedback. It's important that we convince Apple to restore the full functionality of the very useful multitasking feature.

Please boost for visibility

Are there any #iPadOS26 users out there who have tried the restored #SlideOver feature? Can you quickly switch between the Slide-Over app by swiping the bottom edge of the app sideways? #Apple #iPad

Installed iPadOS 26.1 last night, got Slide Over back, and for the most part, it’s a real upgrade. The slide can be resized if I need a better view without needing to take it out of SO. More importantly, the slide can be pulled out from the Home Screen, albeit with some conflict with App Library. Still miss the convenience of having the slide stack, but the slide itself is more useful than it was.

Slide Over In iPadOS 26.1 Returns Just In Time

Since I don’t run betas on any of my devices, I’ve been somewhat anxiously waiting for the release of iPadOS 26.1 which returns the Slide Over multi-tasking feature to the iPad. It got here just in the nick of time.

iPad OS 26.1 arrived yesterday afternoon, about 2 hours before rehearsal began and I quickly set things up for the evening’s rehearsal, using Notes in Slide Over to quickly jot down notes as rehearsal went along.

I use an 11 inch iPad Pro in my theatre work as my primary device. It contains the script I’m working on and ever since Slide Over was available I would use that multi-tasking feature to keep one or more apps tucked away for quick access conducting rehearsals.

I do question why Apple only allows one app in this returning version as opposed to multiple apps as it did before. It was always handy to keep multiple apps available throughout rehearsal, given that I prefer to have my script open full screen on the 11 inch iPad Pro.

As a side note, I’m not a fan of the Liquid Glass border around the window in Slide Over. It waists screen real estate, almost begging you to look at the feature. Even switching Liquid Glass to the new Tinted version, now also available in iOS 26, doesn’t erase or lessen that border or its distracting impact.

In fact, setting the border aside, switching back and forth I don’t really see any significant difference in the apps I’m currently using between the Clear and Tinted versions of Liquid Glass. I won’t call that a complaint, but I will say it might all be much ado about nothing. At least on the iPad.

You can also find more of my writings on a variety of topics on Medium at this link, including in the publications Ellemeno and Rome. I can also be found on social media under my name as above.

>Hey, we brought back Slide Over in iOS 26.1
>it’s literally just a preset to make the app window be in the foreground all the time unless hidden by dragging offscreen

Better than nothing, I guess? But it’s not actually the original Slide Over semantics.

Thank God #SlideOver is back!

Looks kitschy, but it’s back at last.

Apple had – tot verdriet van velen – Slide Over en Split View weggehaald uit iPadOS 26. Maar nu is er toch goed nieuws, want in de aankomende iPadOS 26.1-update maakt Slide Over zijn herintrede.

Tech reviewer @stephenrobles gives a good look at the return of Slide Over in iPadOS 26.1 Beta 2, and a great argument for the return of the old Split Screen mode (which I wholeheartedly second!). I’m bummed that Slide Over only allows for one app, but it’s a step in the right direction. Keep listening, Apple!

YES!! The absence of this has been driving me nuts. But it does seem to have a new restriction that I hope will get taken away at some point:

“Slide Over only supports one app per display, so while you can only position one window on your main iPad display, if you use an external display, you can position a different app on that one.”

I‘m still mad #Apple took away #SlideOver on #iPadOS26. It was the only viable windowing option on iPad Mini, making Mini worse with the update.

I am so going to miss in . I always have Apple Music there@while reading - only one@swipe away. Or half a swipe when I just want to look for the name of the song that’s playing. So far, with the public beta, I haven’t found any alternative that’s half as good.

Overlapping windows feel clumsy and the OS seems to forget the arrangement when I switch orientation.
