Here's another location mystery I'm working on. It's a church. I think it's in the United States.

What I do know: it was taken around July 1960.

A man and two girls who might be twins standing before a set of large wooden doors at the top of a stone staircase. Above the door is a tiled or possible corrugated overhang. Above the overhang is a rose window that appears to have a sword pattern. On either side of the doorway are two large amber glass and iron lanterns. Further out are two small stained glass windows that are slightly smaller than the lamps.

Slide AI-1920 is the wing of a Pan-Am plane, photographed in July 1960.

I'm now processing the remaining slides from the Americana Images box. I think this is an aerial view of either somewhere in Lebanon or Iran as the other slides on the role are from those two countries.

December 1962: A body of water, a road, a tunnel and interesting geology. Any idea where in the world?

Steep sloped cliffs with rock strata at a 45 degree angle. Near the bottom is a narrow road that is heading to a tunnel that goes through some of the interesting strata. Below that is a blue green lake that is rather narrow and confined by the rock formations.

Spent a couple hours tracking down evidence of a brick wall that has mostly been torn down at a location in Washington D.C. Only then to later find a slide where the family is watching the wall nearest them being torn down.

Erin/Hartford Wisconsin, July 1936. This is a shot / reverse shot from the corner that at one time had a church, a gas station, and a restaurant further down.

The church is still there but apparently closed. The restaurant is still there. The gas station has been razed.

A classic white washed American church with a single steeple that's just visible among the pine trees. A path and stairs through the lawn lead to the sidewalk and street.

A country road with a gravel paved Philips 66 service station with a sign for Joe's Horseshoe Inn. Further down the road is a two story wood building that offers food. Currently it's a restaurant and might have been back then.

Meanwhile... Mom....

On the left, a red brick house. On the right, a yellow wood paneled house. In the middle a shared drive way mostly covered in about six inches of snow. Two older women in conservative black coats pose with their snow shovels.

11/20/1959: the birthday girl in blue poses with a ceramic cat she received as a gift.

Who she is? No clue yet. Location: probably Milwaukee, WI. Beyond that, no clue yet.

The last third of this box of slides is truly mysterious and is refusing to give up many of its secrets.

Young woman, probably late teens to mid twenties, sits in a padded rocking chair. She's in a royal blue dress with a broach and a black belt. She's holding a white ceramic cat on her lap.

I'm scanning slides today. I have photo of an ornate room... walls are a golden color. Seats are upholstered in red. There's a woman in a red dress who is visiting. There's a man dressed casually but the way he's sitting and the way he looks completely at ease in this setting makes me suspect he is important.
