@katzenberger @phanpy It's very good, but still frustrates me & i keep having to change away from it. Over the past one or two months, lotsa bouncing around these; they all have good pluses, but also weaknesses that sooner or later drive me away.

• #Mastodeck: hardcoded to 500char, no Desktop Notifications, no #SlowMode, no self-toot CWs(?)
• #Sengi: can't resize columns, editing toots loses ALL #Markdown formatting!, quoting via Markdown gives no visual indication that text is quoted
• #Statuzer: Likes, Boosts, Bookmarking toots in one column do NOT flow automatically to same toots in other columns til Reload
• #Phanpy: can't globally suppress Boosts in Lists; does Notifications weirdly in a way that frequently causes me to miss newer ones that appear down the timeline & need scrolling to discover [why on earth aren't they ALL at the top???]

@zopyx @ThePSF i feel with you but afaics #slowmode is a useful measure to calm down an excited user. It's no shame to receive a slow mode, it's rather a compliment. Don't give up your collaboration with the psf because of an accident. Calm down. Forgive if somebody made a human mistake. Identify the source of the evil and suggest ways to avoid such accidents in the future.

#SlowMode is pretty mandatory if you want to have a look at posts from other instances than your own (Life feeds > Other servers/All).

It seems nigh impossible to follow the posts unless you have Slow Mode on in the Mastodon Preferences.

It makes it a whole lot nicer when you press a button to load a bunch of posts and it doesn't just automatically keep flooding. You'll get peace of mind to look at the posts without it autoscrolling like a racecar past the screen.

Unusually, i'm tooting this from my primary Masto account atm, rather than posting it from my active #Friendica account, which i began using as my daily default #Fedi instance since late January. I'm having yet another of those tedious grass is greener debates with myself on which i'd prefer to be my ongoing daily fedi... Masto or Friendica, Friendica or Masto? Sigh.

Friendica has heaps of nice bells & whistles not present in Masto [even with #GlitchSoc], which ofc is why i've been using & enjoying it. Otoh, there's some cool features in Masto not in Friendica which i continue to miss there, not least being #SlowMode.

Most of all though, if there was a single feature which is THE defining one i just strongly prefer not losing, it's the simple easy very useful post-creation box in Friendica [see pics], with its GUI icon-driven formatting tools, and its excellent Preview tool. Every time i've tried to "come back" to Masto, the complete lack of this has inevitably propelled me back to Friendica. Clearly i strongly wish the Masto Devs would incorporate this!

Pro-tip: If you use Mastodon's slow mode, and you are overwhelmed by posts, it may be better to reload the screen rather than have Mastodon filter a lot of posts.

It has happened twice recently that clicking on the "x new items" button made my tab freeze for a while. It would have been better to reload.

It turns out the whole #slowmode issue was caused when Sally Kolektiva was leaning back in her office chair and accidentally toggled the "Freeze the feeds and notifications for @ophiocephalic @MsDropbear42 @jdp23 @flowers @Air_Quotes_Comedian @MsDropbear"

It's all back to normal now and I can't express how happy this makes me. Well, I suppose I could express how happy it makes me now that I think about it, but I'm far too lazy to do so.

It's amazing how alive it all feels again after being frozen in amber for so long.

Thankyou for fixing the problem. Thanks to everybody who collectively complained about it and kept on doing so. I'd also like to thank the Academy, my Mum....

I am completely satisfied and I'll never complain or moan about anything ever again

Kolektiva meta - broken website interface auto-update

My attempts to ring the bell on this got a reply from one mod, who explained they were busy and suggested that I solve the problem myself. Sadly, I haven't the slightest expertise in the issue of troubleshooting a Mastodon server. A followup suggestion invited me to leave. Indeed.

So, if this problem is making your experience here unpleasant, you need to be aware that it's not getting fixed anytime soon. TBH, with the possible impending Zuckerberg takeover and the dysfunction of the network's major anarchist instance, it's beginning to feel like the prefigurative potential of the fediverse is slipping away.

Suggestion that before you migrate, check in with the admin of any instance you're considering about their position on Meta. From the info circulating, it seems that most of the larger instances intend to federate with the Zuckerberg surveillance entity.
