As a child, Dan saw a kitchen fire put out. Oil spattered onto the burner & flames jumped to life. Dan's mother #smothered it with a wet towel.
Dan was terrified. All that wild dancing---crushed. Gone.
After his bath that night he shied away from his mother's attempt to dry him off & hid behind the couch when she pursued him.
"Let him be; he'll air dry!" his father said.
Eventually he outgrew that phase, but as an adult, he always kept a candle burning at home.
