A range of #Oregon #volcanic #soils developed over fragmental #pyroclastic #rocks and #tuff.

All are well drained soils that show little compaction or development of #clay…though some are used extensively for local agriculture.

Road cut exposure of reddish brown silty soil in Butte Falls Oregon. Small trowel aside freshly exposed soil.Soil profile showing abundant pumice exposed beneath thinner soil in primary root zone. Prospect, Oregon.Outcrop of #Palagonite #tuff soil shows dark brown where moist, brownish yellow where dry. Small dry land shrubs fit the surface below outcrop which is at the fringe of a volcanic vent. Palagonite represents violent interaction between magma and surface or ground water which quenches the magma instantaneously. Soils developed from this material used extensively in the Bonanza, Oregon area for agriculture.Outcrop of deep soil profile developed in yellowish tan colored #tuff. Small shovel head adjacent to freshly exposed deep compacted soil.
