Here is my latest creation. I got this idea because in the dectalk archive in the vocalwriter directory, there is a cover of the original forever Young song by Alphaville. However, there's a new song by Ava Max and Alphaville, which released late last year, and I thought, instead of having the voice of Alphaville singing, we'll have that vocalwriter voice singing with her. #TextToSpeech #SpeechSynthesizer #PopMusic #singingSynthesizer

upd: so apparently there aren't really any screen readers for vim specifically, there are some attempts here and there e.g. https://github.com/equalsraf/vim-speechdispatch but it really seems we'll have to figure this out ourselves...

So far, i’ve found that the 1981 introductory price for the Votrax type-n-talk (is tnt) was $375, in Apple Orchard from 1981. And they did full page adverts in some magazines, including this one from Apple Orchard, now at $345 + $4 shipping, $349.

As you can see, it looks pretty nice. You connect it to an external speaker and to the computer using a serial cable (rs232). Wanted one, but definitely couldnt afford it & used SAM instead

i was underestimating the price. The #votrax Type n Talk was put onthe market in 1980 at a price of $349. In US currency. Here, i found it at $499 Australian dollars in the Dick Smith Electronics catalog from 1983 (votrax would file for bankruptcy in 84). This #SpeechSynthesizer was based on Votrax own chip, the SC-01. In the early 80s, you could buy a text to speech hardware module (around $200-300) for your computer, or you could buy a software only solution. The S.A.M. cost $59.95 for the software. There was a version for Apple II that also included an 8 bit DAC card, for $124.95 total. This was sold by Don't Ask Computer Software and advertised here in Antic magazine, a special edition on sound and music from October 1982.
