@lebout2canap @silvermoon82 If a #TrackPoint instead would be acceptable (cuz a #TrackPad may eat up a lot of estate compared to it), consider i.e. #DIY'ing with a #Sprintek #FlexPoint:

@kobilacroix @katja I use a #ThinkPad-style #Trackpoint integrated in the 65% #Keyboard but since #Lenovo #enshittified that, #TEX is selling good alternatives...

And yes, I'm mad the KU-1255 was discontinued for a 3x expensive version just so Lenovo doesn't have to offer a wired version and a bluetooth version.

If you can, try a trackpoint espechally when you're more typing than mousing...

@radmin @tera @critakitty yeah, @frameworkcomputer refusing to make a #TrackPoint keyboard is kinda sad.

  • Cuz it's not as if they can't make a call at #Sprintek and maybe even get a custom-coloured rubber cap just to avoid #Lenovo claiming they violate the #UltraNav design / trademark.

Not to mention this isn't unique to even #ThinkPad or #hp #ProBook or #Dell #Latitude & #Getac devices, but even #Sony (#Vaio #P11Z) and #GPD did so...

  • I hope they at least got a holder-hole and lanyard loop option for the #Stylus like the #X230Tablet has...

@ustralien So yeah I am sad that @frameworkcomputer didn't work out a deal with like #Sprintek to get a #Trackpoint into the #FrameworkLaptop and I'm pissed that #Lenovo discontinued their #ThinkPad #TrackPoint Keyboard for a new and #enshittified version that cost double the price of the #Bluetooth and triple the #wired version before and is #WirelessOnly aka. can't even be used via #USB without a shitty #dongle, making it basically impossible for me to use.

Needless to say I'd still see #Framework & #Fairphone as the only options on the market right now if I had to buy stuff that is available right now!

@qlp Given they modularized the #Framework 16 and they could reimplement that for the 13" frame.

In fact Sprintek sells trackpoint modules seperately and one could make a matching module that sticks out of a slot as you suggested.

@qlp personally, I wished @frameworkcomputer would give #SprinTek a call and get themselves some #TrackPoint instead of the #TrackPad as an option.

  • IDK maybe make it green or pink so neither #Lenovo (red) nor #hp (black) nor #Dell (blue) nor #Getac (orange) nor #Sony (gray) can complain.

They can't call it #UltraNav either but what about #SmolNav or #ProNav or something.

  • Worst-case they'd have to make a "T H I C C" Edition with a #Perixx #Trackball instead.

@claudius personally, I wished @frameworkcomputer had partnered with #Sprintek to deliver basically the #ThinkPad Keyboard with #UltraNav-Style #Trackpoint because I do use that all the time!

@frameworkcomputer #UltraNav-Style #Trackpoint - when?

I'm shure the folks at #Sprintek can build it...

@tecoholic The big disadvantage besides soldered-down RAM is that the #IdeaPad series is even worse in #quality with some boards having so little support that they crack through the mainboard!

Personally, I just need my #UltraNav-style #PointingStick and I'd never want a computer without it.

@frumble gibt mehrere Gründe:

@clementd #ThinkPad Compact Keyboard with #UltraNav (#USB)...

Sadly discontinued but still available new old stock...

Otherwise you can buy the #Trackpoint mechanisms from #Sprintek and they'll identify as a USB-Mouse...

And yes, I think that the @frameworkcomputer could use a #TrackPoint like the #UltraNav...

Seriously, #Framework: Give #Sprintek a call and ask them to build you a #ThinkPad-Style #Keyboard with Trackpoint.

@xoagray and since #Lenovo stopped making #ThinkPad #CompactKeyboard|s with #wired #USB and I need a new #Keyboard for the #NUCbook anyway, I guess I've to get in contact with #Sprintek and get some #SK8707-06 - #FlexPoint™ PS/2 Pointing Stick Mouse Modules...
