Both shores are densely wooded, with the forest coming tight up to the water's edge. The water is still very clear at this stage of spring. You can see the bottom vegetation clearly just offshore. It is also covered with hundreds of lily pads. Most of them sport bright spring green tones. A few are golden brown. Between the lily pads, the pond mirrors the (mostly offscreen) stately trees lining the far shore and the soft blue June sky.

A soft blue sky with a mass of clouds passing a few miles to our west, dropping some visible rain showers on the distant mountains. We are following the western edge of an open stretch of ridge crest covered with grass, scrubby plants and brownish gray rock formations. Several hundred feet below is a broad green valley with lots of forest and scattered clusters of houses and other buildings. A large rolling meadow is below us, with a built-up strip of larger buildings just beyond. The corner of a large lake is on the right not far away. On the far side of the valley, several miles away, a long traprock ridge runs along the horizon, culminating in a pair of south-facing cliffs. A portion of that ridge is catching the rain showers.

A very soft blue evening sky with lots of haze and clouds. Standing on a rocky slope just above the rocky bank of a small river. It is early spring, the grassy meadow across the river is dormant and golden brown. The hardwood trees and most shrubs still lack leaves. At the far edge of the meadow about a dozen towering pines stand at the near edge of a mixed forest of pines and leafless hardwoods. A low wooded ridge rises along the horizon to our left. To our right are the steep, wooded lower slopes of a mountain. The setting sun is just emerging below the clouds as a bright gold and orange orb mirrored on the river below.

Walking a footpath along a wooded mountainside. The mountain slopes steeply upward to our left but flattens out quite a bit over the stretch the trail runs across. The ground is rather rocky. Other than a sprinkling of evergreens, most of the trees lack foliage but their branches are covered in spring buds. Below the trees, shrubs are sprouting bright emerald leaves. On the forest floor, also sporting the bright greens of early springtime, dozens of leafy shoots and stalks of new grass are springing from the brown remnants of last autumn's leaves. Above us, the evening sun is shining through the tree trunks straight ahead, creating a brilliant 7-pointed starburst and providing a backlit glow to all the greenery.

Some wildflowers I spotted while visiting the countryside. And a bear having a picnic in a farmer's field.

I believe the flowers are silverweed, wild roses, sweet William, and wood violet.
