Alive

I am still alive
But not living.
Trauma has robbed
So much from me.
I am still alive
But that’s not enough.
When can I thrive?
When can I have
An actual life?
Trauma still rules me.

I injured my back in a bad fall in March 2000. Almost 25 years! I suffered a lot with my back after the year+ recovery.

My back tends to go out when I have a foot issue so I’ve been *extra* wary since dealing with multiple foot issues the past 1.5+ years.

I worked from home 6 years ago because of my back + MacGyvered a standing desk for myself. I wrote this poem that’s still relevant:

I'm trying my best
To remember gratitude
While in constant pain

I’m pretty certain this is from my third birthday party because I’m wearing the same outfit and my hair is the same as other photos from that day. I have straight blonde hair worn in high pigtails near the back and failed bangs because of a prominent cowlick. I’m wearing a long sleeve navy wrap dress that my mom likely made with a belt (not seen) that matches the navy and white striped edging on the dress and a white turtleneck shirt underneath.
