Not much of the former city wall of Orsoy (municipality of Rheinberg, Lower Rhine, Wesel district) remains “representative” – except for the powder tower from around 1550, also known as the mill tower, as it was also the tower of a windmill from the 17th century until 1865.

Like the largely preserved town wall of the old town centre of Kaster (Bedburg/Rhein-Erft district), the Owl Tower, the core of which dates back to 1370 (with later additions such as the baroque dome), is made of bricks. In general, most of the older houses in this lowland region are built with bricks.

The Red Tower (or Haags Tower), a defence tower in Oberwesel on the Middle Rhine (Rhine-Hunsrück district/ Rhineland-Palatinate) was a corner tower of the town wall, but its main function was probably to emphasise the power and importance of the town.
