#Stalybridge

Panoramic view westwards from Swineshaw across the Tameside area, with the town of Stalybridge visible in the valley between Hobson Moor on the left and the Brushes hillside on the right. The slopes are a patchwork of green pasture, heather moorland, and wooded areas. In the far distance, the urban sprawl of Greater Manchester stretches towards the horizon under a vivid blue sky with scattered cumulus clouds.

This time last week I was up there; Alphin Pike and Whimberry Stones Brow with Dovestone Moss in the background from my walk today.

🌪️ From #Torro: "Following a site investigation, TORRO have confirmed that #Stalybridge (Greater #Manchester) was hit by a tornado late on Wednesday 27th December 2023 with a provisional maximum damage rating of T5."

More information on the T scale here: torro.org.uk/research/tornadoe

Just reading that the #tornado in #Stalybridge last night has been given a provisional rating of T5 on the TORRO scale, which seems commensurate to a high-end EF2 tornado on the Enhanced Fujita scale.

This is the same TORRO rating as given to the 2006 'London' tornado.

"The Liberal Democrats have called on Rishi Sunak to convene a Cobra meeting in the wake of Storm Gerrit and the tornado in Greater Manchester."

I mean I hate the Tories and Sunak as much as anyone, but it was hardly a mile-wide wedge #tornado on the ground for an hour, was it?

And I hardly think there is going to be widespread looting on the streets of #Stalybridge is there?

"Sidney Shaw house furnisher…
…Maker of bedroom… Chesterfield."

It's only a matter of time before I can be justified in my initial misreading as "Sidney Shaw Goose Polisher"

Victorian brick gable end with the faded remnants of a painted advertisement:
"Sidney Shaw
House furnisher…
…Maker of bedroom…
… Chesterfield."

Chesterfield in this case being a sofa, not the town with the bendy steeple.

Tuesday Trail Run round Stalybridge moorland and reservoirs. I would say the view was lovely but there was an eiree fog and couldn't see more than about 10 metres in front of me most of the time!

I didn't know collecting Trig Points was a thing before seeing it on here, so I might try and do a bit of that on my adventures now.

A narrow footpath leads off into the foggy horizon. Steep moorland slopes downwards from left to rightWild Bank Trig Point, near Stalybridge, Tameside (399m). A small, white pillar sits on top of high ground. Not much of the surrounding landscape is visible due to dense fog. A remote tree on high ground. Surrounding grassy fields are covered in light snow and frost. Dense fog in the backgroundView of Walkerwood Reservoir, Stalybridge, Tameside. Fog is clearing on this lower ground but distant fog is covering surrounding hills. There are some trees to the right of the reservoir and a stone wall to the left.
