Seriously, I bought my first box of #StarFrontiers #miniatures at a #ToysRUs. Back in the #80s, toy stores would sell little kids boxes of lead without blinking an eye.

Looking to refresh the #art in my living room, I found this poster. Doesn't fit my living room's vibe, but it does make me want to play old #scifi #ttrpg like #StarFrontiers. Maybe I'll buy it for my home office.

Happy #StarFrontiers day! As best I can tell, on this day in 1982 at #GenCon XV, TSR released Star Frontiers. It was the first RPG I played, at about age 10. #rpg #rpgs #ttrpg #ttrpgs #scifi #scifittrpgs

I haven't forgotten my #StarFrontiers conversions for #StarTrekAdventures , I promise. I've gotten sidetracked by the upcoming #Fallout game (Sunday!) and some entertaining discussions elsenet about other games. I know I'm procrastinating, because I always do, and I apologize.
I've slacked for a few days on #TTRPG reading and my #StarFrontiers conversions for #StarTrekAdventures because my brain has hit overload with all the crap going on and all I want to do is veg out and play games. Sorry.
SOME OLD BLOG POST:
Alien weapons #artwork for a #StarFrontiersman zine article from 2013.
Alternately, for the Species Ability, I could adapt their "Lie Detection" skill and give them a boost on checks to determine falsehoods and deception, making the limbs just part of the morphic ability of the Species Trait. Now that I think about it, that's probably a better way to go. Mechanically: first extra d20 bought with Momentum on Insight checks to determine deception is free?
Names are going to be an issue. I'm going to need to scour old #StarFrontiers products for examples. It'll be fun to read the old material again, of course.
Sample Values will relate to their love of philosophy and debate, their mindfulness, and their genial relations with other species.
Attributes? I'm thinking bonuses to Fitness, Insight and Reason.
Adapting the #Dralasites should be fairly simple. Their Species Trait would apply in cases of strength and stability, due to their morphic adaptability, but work against them in terms of speed. It would represent their education in philosophy, and I'm trying to find a way to work in their love of old and bad humor.
The Dral Species Ability is obviously their ability to grow pseudopods as they need. Representing that mechanically will take me some thinking.
The poll has ended. Sadly it only got a few responses, but in the end, the winner was... everybody's favorite bad-joke-loving amoeboids, the Dralasites! I might as well go in alphabetical order, with the Vrusk next and then the Yazirians
@HeyeBodo I am in the initial stages of a project to convert material from the old #StarFrontiers and #Alternity TTRPGs into #StarTrekAdventures 2e. I'll be beginning with the SF aliens (Dralasites, Vrusk and Yazirians).
Okay, plan of action: Study the species writeups in #StarTrekAdventures some more, and then attempt to write conversions, starting with the #StarFrontiers aliens. A question for you: who would you like to see me convert first? The guinea pigs, so to speak? #TTRPG #StarTrek
From what I recall, many #StarFrontiers ships had #StarTrek style engine nacelles (a pretty clear stylistic influence). Positing that these are actually warp nacelles makes conversion a no-brainer. Here is an image of some Star Frontiers miniatures. They all strike me as vaguely Andorian in design! https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkUGj365XKzvHddkgNIaGE0Dk8ufkUhfJuG2hiagz7kaQ00oz3yt6Xc2wj7dF-zULugNzi-4ah3ke0mmdpnUNNYAQUzSZlYEiEJcviLl9Eszk7th8Thzqt8lYcbl4nNuNMLGbshq2HC8Or/s1600/privateers+scouts+freighter+front.JPG
I have a project idea, tying into that #StarTrekAdventures game I was asked to run.
I want to do species writeups for the #StarFrontiers and #Alternity aliens (some of you may also remember them collectively grouped together in #d20Future ) in STA. That includes the Sathar!
I even have a concept of a plan of an idea: the PCs will be a specialized Away Team (senior officers going on ATs is just *stupid*) on a ship investigating a newly-discovered rogue planet drifting in deep space. I even know some things I want them to find there, including aliens from #StarFrontiers and #Alternity!
Rebuilding my old gaming website is making me think about #StarFrontiers a lot, but then something else randomly reminded me that skydiving exists, and now I'm thinking useless thoughts like "Skydiving would be a Military PSA skill in Star Frontiers." I don't have time for silly thoughts like that.
@punkpaleo @PTR_K The #Spelljammer Monstrous Compendium credits the Hadozee, Rastipede, and Syllix entries to Doug Niles, who worked on the #StarFrontiers line, so it's pretty clear what he was doing. (I actually disagree with the conventional wisdom about the Plasmoids, partially because Niles didn't create them.)
@mdhughes I remember you! I was a subscriber to that mailing list (for a while, anyway).
I'm actually putting my old #StarFrontiers website back together. Can't let the flame go out!
