An old farm pond near the entrance of trail Yellow 4 in Hammond Hill State Forest I saw yesterday. Most of the state forests were filled with farms on land parceled revolutionary soldiers that ultimately failed because they were on atrocious land and got bought back by New York State

A circular pond lined with shale stones surrounded in a forest floor covered with fallen leaves with a few deciduous trees growing immediately around it and more trees, many evergreen, visible in the distance.

Today I hiked on Shindagin Hollow Road, about a mile from my home, for the first time this year. It's a "minimum maintenance road" which doesn't get plowed in the winter but is passable for the brave.

A road pointing away from the camera fills the bottom left with a water filled ditch to the right and a slop with trees with an empty spot to the lower right; there are trees on the left too. Tire tracks and footprints are visible in the icy middle and the ground everywhere is covered with snow except for the ditch; the road makes a turn in the far distance and is hidden by the trees.

He got a bath this morning after the long dusty hikes in Marlborough-Sudbury State Forest and Boxford State Forest this weekend.
