November is Stomach Cancer Awareness Month, a time to educate ourselves about this often silent disease. Stomach cancer can develop without noticeable symptoms and is frequently diagnosed in advanced stages. It affects approximately 30,000 people annually in the U.S.
𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻:
- 𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗻𝘀 & 𝗦𝘆𝗺𝗽𝘁𝗼𝗺𝘀:
- Heartburn/abdominal discomfort
- Weakness or exhaustion
- Feeling full after small meals
- Poor appetite
- Blood in the stool
- Unexplained weight loss
- Nausea and/or vomiting
- 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗸 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀:
- Age (average diagnosis at 68)
- Occupation (higher rates in coal, metal, and rubber industries)
- Location (prevalent in certain regions)
- Family history and ethnicity
- Weight (obesity increases risk)
- Dietary habits and tobacco/alcohol use
𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗧𝗶𝗽𝘀:
- Maintain a healthy weight
- Avoid smoking
- Eat a balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables
- Stay active with regular exercise
