Gust of wind just over 70mph in the last 24 hrs. 10.5mm of rain. This is #StormBram signing out:
1) The patch of roofing felt I put on the shed myself is still there and the tools inside are dry.
2) The tarpaulin the insurance guys put on the roof damage from #StormAmy is still there!! 🙌🙌 And buckets inside still empty!
3) The bird table which someone on here thought would topple at the slightest wind stands absolutely rock solid!!

A slate roofed bird table with bird feeders hanging from it in a small walled garden beside a stone cottage. There’s gravel round its feet and grass lawn around that. In the left of the picture is a large camelia in bud and glossy green leaf.

For those of you kind people showing an interest in our leaking house (thanks #StormAmy ) we finally had a visit today from a new company, working for our insurers called Repair Scotland, which offered us a proper emergency repair (our third) and talked us through the process of fixing the roof, stripping back the interior, initiating a ‘drying regime’ and then putting everything back to rights. It is not going to be quick but this is what we actually need. It was very reasonable and reassuring. To quote Snow Patrol, ‘Give me words of reassurance but only if they’re true.’ #Repairs #insurance

A picture of our bedroom ceiling showing a widening crack in the plaster where the water has been pouring through, and mould growing in the sodden wallpaper. The damp and mould continue down the side of the window. Our tub of water collecting under the leak which is frequently emptied on an engineered wood floor. A bright yellow dehumidifier stands beside it.

A #Yorkshireman working on a #NorthSea #oilrig rescued an #owl that had been blown nearly 300km off course by #StormAmy - he fed her for a few days and she was collected by a #wildlife sanctuary in #Shetland , checked over by #vets and released

(it is impressive the lad was able to catch an owl and even had all the kit ready to look after her!)

"Timing makes this latest incident particularly concerning. Wild salmon are now returning to Scottish rivers to spawn. The sudden influx of tens of thousands of farmed escapees increases the chance of interbreeding, and of long-term genetic damage"

Almost 75,000 farmed salmon in Scotland escaped into the wild after Storm Amy – why this may cause lasting damage

So here we are at the beginning of the repair phase. Roof is broken (I am not surprised). We’ll need a new roof. He says he’ll take us photos. Can’t guarantee his repair will be watertight but is doing his best with blutak and roof felt and what looks like sellotape. Fingers crossed 🤞 please! #StormAmy

Spending a weekend DIY day (should really be weather proofing the house before winter ) doing some of the easy bits of tidy up after #stormamy
This is a single beech limb that has come down on the farm track - should be able to clear the completely (1 person ) in about 4 hours of daylight .

farm track covered in fallen down breech branch . A whole fallen down tree is visible in the background further down the track. An orange chainsaw is in the foreground on the ground .

The remains of a large Conger eel (Conger conger) likely caught out by the big swells that arrived in the wake of Storm Amy and thrown high up on the shoreline. Black-backed gulls have been claiming their share.

"What did you do during the great storm (Storm Amy) of 2025?"

I mostly sat around the kitchen table burning candles. I did the same for the same for the next four nights. Electrical power supply returned on Wednesday morning.

I did drive home late on Friday night. I've never experienced such "carnage" on roads before. On the short 7 mile drive home there were 2-dozen trees blown across the road. It was like driving a slalom course.

Điều kiện địa hình hiểm trở kết hợp mưa lớn khiến chiến dịch cứu hộ trở nên vô cùng phức tạp. Cảm phục tinh thần kiên cường của nạn nhân và sự phối hợp nhịp nhàng từ đội cứu hộ quốc tế!

Fire, light, book - power cut essentials (plus camp stove). Just had the weirdest outage ever. Friday evening some power failed completely, some partially, sone not at all. Some lights worked normally, some flickered, some dimmed, some were out. Same with appliances. This lasted two days then all the power failed. Came back on this evening. #powercut #stormamy

Monday morning, misty and damp after a weekend of Storm Amy. All peaceful and quiet.

Morning view, shot towards the sun. A tractor is on the right of the picture with the cab windows misted up - the condensation is lit up by the sunlight. Two woodpiles are stacked to the left of the tractor with several sets of wire fences crossing the picture. Dew drops are hanging of the wire mesh. In the foreground power lines cross the upper part of the picture. Almost monochrome.

My mother Anne slipped and fell at her home on Friday.
My sister Donna took her to the local hospital, where it was decided that she must be transferred immediately to the mainland.
The Scottish Air Ambulance took her direct to Crosshouse Hospital in Ayrshire just as #StormAmy arrived.
Mum was given a CT scan which indicated a massive bleed into the brain.
She was admitted to a ward and given a quiet room.
All 4 children gathered from around the UK.

Two hands clasped together; they are those of a mother and her son.

On the train yesterday, we were encouraged to submit a Delay Repay claim so I did. It was easy to do online and I've had confirmation today that I'm getting half of my fare refunded.

This seems like an efficient system which compensates rail travellers for delay. I do find it slightly odd that weather-related disruption is included, as that can't be blamed on the rail companies, but it's nice to get a refund.

#stormamy leaving a little bit behind, but we got off lightly here.

A tree branch has come down over one of the trails. It’s not going to be easy to clear, but could be a lot worse.

Feasgar math! Power just back on after 65 hours with no electricity in Bunessan. 🥳💃🕺. Mobile network went down too, so no phone or internet, TV or radio either. Formerly, the old copper phone network kept going during such power outages. But the glorious age of fibre has put paid to that. 😬 Obv. the fibre internet is great, but the promised power resilience is non existent. Ho hum . #StormAmy

Despite Storm Amy trying her best to get in the way, managed to complete my mountain leader training course yesterday. Three weekends of horrible weather, but even this weekend had one or two moments of brief calm amidst the storm.
What a lot to take in though, and a lot of consolidation to do!
