Yes, it’s a #StupidPhone trick, but I’m still impressed that this photo taken with my DSLR back in 2002 when displayed in the photo widget gets presented as a faux-3D image with at *least* 4 convincing layers of depth.

It’s pointless, but striking.

For the absolute necessities like phone calls (because people refuse to send eMails) and #SMS (because companies refuse to properly encrypt shite) a #StupidPhone (cuz that shit ain't secure at all)!

For everything else I recommend to just use @tails_live / @tails / #Tails and merely get some phone that can act as data #modem.

The only reason #Smartphones got big is because it actually provided an improvement compared to a "#StupidPhone" already solving the communication problem whilst becoming a more accessible version of #computing for many people in "The #GlobalSouth" for whom #Desktops and #Laptops never were close to 'affordable' even when built with dumpster-dived / landfill-scavanged parts.

Most people in "P.R." #China and Subsahara - #Africa skipped the #PC entirely as #Smartphone|s are not just #cheaper, but also better suited for places with #infrastructure #deficits re: #broadband and #electricity.

And if we correlate #GDP per capita, average income, average downtime for electricity grid, average fixed broadband speed and number of #blackouts for #power, we'll definitely see that it'll be more likely for Smartphones to dominate even harder than they already do in the "The Global North" where some households can afford more PCs than the occupants have limbs-

Whereas in many places @landley 's Allegory of a Smartphone being cobbled on a USB-C hub to an old display, keyboard and mouse is way more in line with reality than 5 billion VR headsets in 2030!

If your threat model is "theft of devices by cops", make shure to be able to commit #AssetDenial or have nothing on the devices they can use!

Burner #StupidPhones and (e)SIM-Cards are cheap. keep them switched off and the battery pulled out!

I'd consider wasting €20 on a #StupidPhone, €20 on a rewriteable #eSIMcard and €10-20 on an #eSIM a "necessary expense" and I'd gladly show people how to get that stuff and not burn their opsec/anonymity by doing so...

Yes, I do use multiple devices and I want to be able to pick them freely.

Same with #eSIM: I can put that on a #SIM #Card *but I can't swap the soldered-down #Chip!

#Fairphone could've offered / included an #eSIMcard (yes, these do exist!) and thus solved the entire issue: offering #eSIM & #DualSIM without the need of a #TripleSIM-capable #Baseband!

And yes, I routinely use #eSIMcards because I get the #freedom and #flexibility of choice, because it's noone's business which #device I use Which #plans on!

And whilst courts in #Germany ruled it's illegal to charge for #DeciceSwaps re: #eSIMs, that is only enforceable against #MNO|s & #MVNO|s from #Germany!

Plus many plans I want to use and/or help people to setup are #SIMonly and not available as #eSIM (i.e. #netzclub)...

No, eSIM is NOT a sufficient replacement even by the sheer fact that most of my devices can't even manage an eSIM Card unless that would he possible just with #ICCDcodes and *"#SIMtoolkit" / embedded Firmware on the #SIMcard!

I dare you to try to deploy an #eSIM on a #2Gonly #StupidPhone whereas a regular SIM can just be chugged in!

Das gibt's vandalismusgeschützt und robust als Drop-In - Lösung von drölfzig Zahlungsdienstleistern und bedarf weder #Digitalzwang noch #AppZwang, wenn die schon kein #Bargeld akzeptieren wollen!

Bei Kleinbeträgen bis €25 wäre auch #CallPay & #SMSpayment problemlos machbar, was auch mit nem #StupidPhone samt #Prepaid-#SIM geht, ohne Registrierungs-Zwang!
