On the Celestia app, I’ve caught a screenshot of Earth’s northern and southern poles on today’s solstice.

The northern hemisphere as viewed from the North Pole on December 21, 2:38 PM Pacific. About 3/4 of the planet is in darkness from this viewpoint.

The southern hemisphere as viewed from the South Pole, December 21, 2:39 PM Pacific. About 2/3 of the planet is sunlit from this viewpoint.

Happy #Solstice ! For those of us in the northern hemisphere where I live, this is #WinterSolstice … the shortest day of the year and therefore the darkest in terms of light. We all know that the days only get longer from here on out… and we are excited!

For my friends in the southern hemisphere, this is #SummerSolstice and the longest day of the year. I would expect they probably feel as we do in June. 🙂
