A 9x3 foot raised bed with 4 summer squash planted. The far two are zucchini and the near two are yellow crookneck. There is a black polyethylene 1020 tray setting on the near right side of the bed with empty square pots and some plant tags.

A 9x3 foot raised garden bed with 4 winter squash plants. They are nearest 2 bush acorn type, and farthest 2 bush butternut type. Beyond the bed are two very large planters with oregano and marigolds growing in them. There is a weedy fenceline to the left that has grass, oregano, catnip, strawberries, mysteries.

The summer squash bed a day later with the plants held down with light weight plastic netting from produce bags type of material. This is to keep the plants from being able to be blown around by the wind to survive a windy day. They look a bit wilted because they were squash in pots and are only 1 day planted out and it's 84F/29C out. The closest netting is green, the other 3 are black and not very visible.

The winter squash bed with the plants covered with netting from onion bags. This netting is more solid but less stretchy. 3 white nets and one yellow net.

Harvest, September 4, 2024.

5 Marketer cucumbers, 1 Muncher cucumber, and 1 Sugar Baby watermelon were picked along with some little musk melons for the chickens.

Yesterday's watermelon was excellent and I saved some seeds from it. One of the little musk melons was meh and shared it with the chickens.

August 30 harvest. 1 sugar baby watermelon, 2 little musk melons, 2 days of cucumbers and squash were found too.

The watermelon probably could have gone a little longer but it had that texture that it probably wouldn't have got any better tastsing. It was one in the raised bed. The softer of the two musk melons tasted good, the other saved for later.

Chickens have been getting most of the melons. Sometimes there's one that tastes ok but they've been kind of not sweet and nothing special.

Two yellow straight-neck summer squash that have been harvested that are in the grass of the lawn that is wet still.

Some other attractions in the garden are of course chilli plants (I grow about 20 varieties this year) and the yard long squashes that are also prolific and excellent in taste. We have spells of clement weather which is when I took these shots of the garden produce but also a lot of storms and showers, which creates some interesting if challenging lighting conditions as seen in the other two photos. Still hoping to catch a lightning towards a sunset though, which is one of my long-term photography goals.
