So close to a perfect weekend of Rugby League for my teams with the Wakey win in Super League yesterday but then a single point loss in Golden Point for the Bunnies in NRL.
Oh, yes! 16-10 win over second place and current champions, Wigan. Thank you very much.
They're local rivals to Wakey so I've no problem with Castleford losing, but getting nilled at home at the moment to Hull KR and with the score mounting up every few minutes isn't really fun to watch.
So I'm already said as 'hating women' and 'fairness in women's sports', but I don't think having a team score a try every four minutes, and after four rounds already have had two 100+ scores is good, and needs sorting out.
Whether that's playing 70 (or even 60) minute matches, having a player outlay floor for entry to the league, or even the RFL getting over themselves and inviting Catalans Dragons back to compete, something's got to change.
There's a reason all NRLW matches are televised, and Sky are only showing two Women's Super League matches this season. Because women's rugby league in England is uncompetitive. And the product won't bring people in to it until it is.
An aside to recent analysis; the comparison between the average season-starting Elo ratings of the top 8 teams versus those of the top 20 teams.
From 1895 until the 1980s, the difference was reasonably steady in the range of about 100-150 points. Since that point, arguably 1983, the top 8 teams have trended away from the rest, the difference now being about 250 points.
This indicates that the very best teams stepped away from the rest, possibly especially in the first decade of #SuperLeague.
Tough game. A shame to lose that one but some of that woeful tackling in the first half and inability to handle the GLDOs did us in.
The NRL has neutral site matches in Darwin, Adelaide and Perth.
Super League meanwhile has neutral site matches in Dewsbury.

Just imagine what place Super League Europe could be in if that came off, or was done at a different time.

So close. Good second half from Wakey. Ability of the ref to miss some things and imagine others make you wonder why he didn't have to face a head injury assessment at some point but I suppose he was just following the script for the first 40 minutes.

Lovely. Wakefield beat Salford 72-10, equalling the biggest margin of victory we've ever had in Super League as the commentators never tired of mentioning as we approached that milestone. Red Devils team totally outclassed, and the result never in any doubt.
