6 जून 2025 को साक्षी टीवी के शो “KSR लाइव” में पैनलिस्ट वी.वी.आर. कृष्णम राजू ने अमरावती को “वेश्याओं की राजधानी” कहा। श्रीनिवास राव, जो शो के मॉडरेटर थे, ने टिप्पणी को रोकने की बजाय हंसी दिखाई। इस पर आंध्र प्रदेश पुलिस ने 9 जून को हैदराबाद से राव को गिरफ्तार किया। मंगलागिरी कोर्ट ने उन्हें 14 दिन की हिरासत में भेजा। मामला SC/ST एक्ट और IPC की धाराओं के तहत दर्ज हुआ।

सुप्रीम कोर्ट की सुनवाई और टिप्पणी

सुप्रीम कोर्ट का फैसला सुनाते हुए जस्टिस प्रशांत कुमार मिश्रा और जस्टिस मम्मन ने पुलिस से पूछा, “जब एंकर ने बयान नहीं दिया, तो उसे क्यों गिरफ्तार किया?” कोर्ट ने कहा कि डिबेट में गेस्ट अक्सर विवादित बातें कहते हैं और एंकर हंसते हैं। यह रोज होता है। कोर्ट ने नविका कुमार और रजत शर्मा जैसे एंकर्स का उदाहरण दिया। कोर्ट ने राव की पत्रकारिता और अभिव्यक्ति की स्वतंत्रता को संरक्षण देने की बात कही।

पुलिस को फटकार और पत्रकारिता की आजादी

आंध्र प्रदेश सरकार के वकील मुकुल रोहतगी ने दावा किया कि राव ने पैनलिस्ट को उकसाया। कोर्ट ने इसे खारिज करते हुए कहा, “हंसना अपराध नहीं है।” कोर्ट ने राव को जमानत दी और कहा कि भविष्य में उनके शो में ऐसी टिप्पणियां नहीं होनी चाहिए। 70 वर्षीय राव की गिरफ्तारी ने पत्रकारिता जगत में बहस छेड़ दी। YSRCP ने इसे राजनीतिक साजिश बताया, जबकि TDP ने टिप्पणी की निंदा की।

अमरावती में आक्रोश और प्रदर्शन

पैनलिस्ट की टिप्पणी से अमरावती की महिलाएं आहत हुईं। उन्होंने साक्षी टीवी के खिलाफ प्रदर्शन किया। आंध्र प्रदेश महिला आयोग की अध्यक्ष रायपति शैलजा ने माफी की मांग की। मुख्यमंत्री चंद्रबाबू नायडू ने कड़ी कार्रवाई की चेतावनी दी। साक्षी टीवी के एलुरु कार्यालय के पास आगजनी की घटना ने तनाव बढ़ाया। कृष्णम राजू को 11 जून को गिरफ्तार किया गया।
