Side view of a very large, 4 engined jet airliner flying from right to left at a very low altitude, it's main wheels mere metres above the runway, with flaps extended from the front and rear of the wings, and the nose raised sharply, suggesting it has just taken off.
The plane is mostly white, with a brown and black stripe running along the body, under the main passenger cabin windows.
There are red "SwissAir" titles between the upper and main deck windows on the upper forward fuselage.
The tail is bright red, with a large white cross in the middle.
Green grass fills the foreground, lining the side of the runway, with more grass visible under the plane in the background, leading up to a veritable forest in the distance, under flat grey sky.

The tail and horizontal stabiliser are bright red, with a large white cross barely visible on the tail.

Tails Tuesday 25th November 2025.

HB-IRN [Fake registration], Douglas DC-3, in Swiss Air colours, on display at the base of the observation mound in the middle of Munich Strauss, 30th September 1996.
This plane never actually served with Swiss Air - the real HB-IRN is on display at the Swiss Transport Museum (which, co-incidentally, I accidentally visited in 1990!) in Lucerne.
Instead, this spent most of it's career with SAS Scandinavian Airlines and Kar-Air, before being donated for display on the rooftop terraces at Frankfurt Airport, where, co-incidentally, I saw it in 1993!

Close-up of the tail of a World War 2-era twin-engined airliner parked on grass facing to the left.
The plane is largely in a silvery-grey bare metal finish, with a thick red stripe at the top of the tail, with a large white cross in the middle, and a large red beacon right at the top.
In the background, the nose/centre engine of a 3-engined airliner peeks into the frame on the left, with grass, trees, and a car park filling the rest of the background.

Side view of a long, thin, twin engined jet airliner with the engines mounted on the sides of the rear fuselage, facing to the left but being pushed back to the right by an almost out of frame low slung green tug attached to the nose wheel.
The plane has a white top half with a silvery-grey belly, and a thick brown and black stripe running along the body, just below the passenger cabin windows.
There are red "SwissAir" titles on the upper forward fuselage, and the black registration "HB-INN" on the upper rear, under the tail.
The tail itself is red, with a large white cross in the middle.
A large expanse of grey concrete apron fills the foreground, with a couple of airport vehicles, a small green car and a white van on the left of the frame, following a roadway marked on the surface.
A brown building stretches across the right-hand half of the background, with a white, very large 4 engined jet airliner with a bright yellow tail taxiing to the right on the left, under dreary grey sky.

Just your average day: a Soviet Ilyushin Il-62 in full Swissair livery buzzing the Verkehrshaus in Lucerne.

Has Swiss neutrality gone too far? 🇨🇭✈️
And more importantly—should the museum make room for it?

A Swissair-liveried Ilyushin Il-62 jet flies low over the Swiss Museum of Transport (Verkehrshaus der Schweiz) in Lucerne on a clear, sunny day. The aircraft features a white fuselage with a red cheatline and a bold red tail marked with a white cross. Below, crowds of visitors explore the museum grounds, which include vintage aircraft, a green electric locomotive, and modern buildings adorned with Swiss flags. In the background, Lake Lucerne and the surrounding mountains create a scenic alpine backdrop.

One of the main CERN buildings is visible in the distance - this isn't particularly noticeable when you are there, but it dominates photos of this airport.

Several bizjets are parked in front of the hangar, with more visible through the open doors.
A blue hangar is off to the rear left of the frame, with trees in the distance on the right, under bright but hazy skies.
