B1 Bus: The Data Proves That It Got Worse

Now we have a Labor government we can finally get to the bottom of the crappy privatisation contracts with Sydney bus services. Years of pain and not a thing done about it! Because that would have exposed this ludicrous situation of it being better for them financially to cancel a bus than let it run late. And other illogical non-incentives.
Please note, the article says they have financial incentives relating to customer service. I'm not sure if that covers complaints about canceled and late buses, but it would seem sensible for us to complain like Karens from Hell. (Please don't complain about the drivers though).

There's no bus driver shortage in Sydney. There's a decent pay and conditions shortage since the buses were privatised by the LNP.

The recent privatisation of bus services in NSW has resulted in a two-tier class of workers whereby the wages and conditions of some bus drivers working on exactly the same buses and routes as their colleagues are paid less and have worse conditions because they are employed by the private operator under a separate industrial instrument.

Fun fact: if your credit card expires and you update your #OpalCard billing details with the new details, you will also need to re-establish any auto top-ups, because they don't roll over with the new payment details (and therefore your card will grump at you for a week for being too low a balance.) #SydneyBuses

Busways North West - services (especially in peak hour) decimated by a botched privatisation, and drivers that decide they don't feel like picking up passengers, so stick on the old "Set Down Only" sign and make eye contact as their empty bus sails past.

As a side project I built Sydney Transit Graph – a visualisation of real-time Sydney bus congestion. Each line on the graph (a Marey chart) represents a bus completing its route (percentage) over time.
