#SynthstromAudible

The #Deluge had already been an outstanding piece of gear before, but when #SynthstromAudible open-sourced the firmware, a fan-driven development effort started that, as a Deluge owner, I can only describe as "mindblowing".

Bugs were fixed, refactorings took place, and an impressive amout of new features and quality of life improvements were added, and are still coming.

Check out youtu.be/J8hibZYJhoY (23 min) or github.com/SynthstromAudible/D for an overview of the community firmware improvements.

Holy shit! #SynthstromAudible, developers of the #Deluge groovebox, have just announced that

• they will make the Deluge’s firmware open source (GPLv3)
• they have written extensive documentation
• there will be live dev Q&A sessions
• they will provide support to community firmware development
• they’re open to merging community code into the official firmware
• installing custom firmware will not void your warranty

This is absolutely epic and sets a great example.

It's done. Everything's wired up to two audio and one MIDI patch bays and ready to go.

Still mildly surprised that everything is working as planned 😂

Imagine a new version of a hardware #synth being released, with some improvements, e.g. better encoders or an OLED screen where it just had a four-digit seven-segment display.

Of course owners of the “old” model might be tempted to “upgrade”, i.e. buy the new model.

Now imagine “upgrade” meant “send your old unit to the manufacturer, they’ll modify the metal case, desolder the old screen, attach a daughterboard with the new screen, re-flash some chips etc“.

#SynthstromAudible does that.
