Boston Logan International KBOS → Provincetown KPVC

Destination: Nantucket. Reality: An unscheduled landing at the northern tip of Cape Cod. Between a fuel complication and some challenging crosswinds on the approach, it was a busy day in the cockpit.

A small turboprop aircraft is airborne, positioned above the vast snow-covered urban area of Boston. The plane flies against a bright blue sky with scattered white clouds. Below, a dense cityscape features numerous high-rise buildings, their surfaces blanketed in snow, along with lower residential structures and wide streets also covered in snow. Several dark blue waterways, including rivers and a large body of water near the horizon, cut through the city. Bridges span these waterways, connecting different parts of the urban grid. In the distance, the city extends toward the horizon, where a hazy layer meets the sky. The overall scene depicts a winter day in a major metropolitan area with clear weather and the aircraft moving through the sky above the snow-laden city.A white single-engine propeller airplane with a dark stripe on its fuselage flies above a curved landmass. The aircraft is positioned near the upper right of the frame, heading toward the center. Below, a narrow, winding road cuts through a landscape of snow or ice-covered terrain along a large, deep blue body of water. The landmass curves into a semi-circular shape, with the road tracing its edge. Thick, fluffy white clouds fill most of the background, partially obscuring the blue sky visible in the upper left corner. The water appears smooth and expansive, bordered by the snowy shore. The scene is bright, suggesting daylight, with the airplane slightly above the landmass and clouds framing the upper portion of the view.A small single-engine turboprop aircraft, predominantly white with a black lower section and a red stripe running along the fuselage, is in flight. Its propeller spins rapidly, visible through motion blur effects. Sunlight glints off the wing where the sun is low on the horizon, suggesting early morning or late afternoon. The aircraft hovers above a vast expanse of deep blue ocean, with a small, sandy island visible in the distance. The island’s edges are lined with low-lying greenery, and its shoreline appears slightly curved. Above, the sky is filled with fluffy white clouds, some illuminated by the sun to create soft highlights, while others cast subtle shadows. The aircraft’s tail fin displays the text "TBM" in red, with a smaller marking that read "930". The scene conveys a serene flight over open water with a distant landmass on the horizon.A cockpit view features multiple digital flight displays showing instrument readings for landing. The left screen shows "LOC" and "GS" labels with numerical values such as 120, 70, 80, 90, 100, 110, 120, 180, 340, 035, indicating course deviation, glide slope, and altitude parameters. The center screen displays navigation details including "HDG", "ALT SEL", "CRS1", "CRS2", "V/S", "SPD", "ALT", "A/P", "NAV", "FG", "FMS". The right screen mirrors the left display elements. The aircraft is on final approach to land, evidenced by the runway ahead and precise instrument readings. Outside the windshield, a coastal landscape unfolds: a runway surrounded by wetlands with water patches, dense vegetation, and scattered trees. To the left, a large body of water meets a cloudy sky, while the right side shows forested terrain. The landscape combines snowy areas, water bodies.

Portland International KPWM → Boston Logan International KBOS

A nice loop after takeoff took me straight over the airport in Portland before the trip continued in glorious sunshine along the East Coast toward Boston.

I’d done almost the same route back in 2008, but that time by car heading north (first on I-95, then MA 1A and NH 1A).

A small white airplane with a red stripe flies low over a snow-covered airport, its position suggesting approach toward the runways. The aircraft glides above a network of intersecting runways and taxiways forming a large, geometric airfield complex, surrounded by dense, snow-laden forests and winding roads. Below the plane, the airport infrastructure includes terminal buildings and service areas, all nestled within a vast, wintry landscape. Beyond the airport, the terrain extends into open fields and scattered water bodies, while a large body of water curves toward the horizon on the left. The clear blue sky dominates the upper portion of the scene, contrasting with the snowy ground and emphasizing the cold, quiet atmosphere of the area. Distant roads and patches of open land blend into the horizon, where the water meets the sky under a bright, cloudless expanse.A single airplane flies at altitude over a vast expanse of deep blue ocean under a clear sky. The sun sits high in the bright blue sky, casting a sharp, brilliant reflection across the water’s surface. Lens flare effects appear around the sun. To the right, faint outlines of distant islands or landmasses are visible on the horizon. The ocean stretches uninterrupted toward the horizon, its surface smooth and undisturbed by waves, reflecting the sun’s glow. The airplane is small in the frame, positioned slightly left of center, moving through the air above the water. The sky transitions from a lighter blue near the horizon to a deeper blue higher up, indicating a clear day with no visible clouds. The overall scene conveys a sense of open space and calm movement above the sea.A small single-engine propeller-driven airplane dominates the frame, featuring a white fuselage with a continuous red stripe extending from the nose to the tail. The nose is dark gray, and the wings are black, with a vertical stabilizer showing subtle color details near its top. The propeller is spinning at high speed, generating visible concentric circles of motion blur that indicate active engine operation. The aircraft is in level flight, positioned against a clear, cloudless sky that transitions from deep blue at the top to a lighter blue near the horizon. Below, a large expanse of calm blue water is visible, with a thin band of white clouds forming the horizon line. The scene depicts a smooth flight over water under bright, clear conditions with no text or additional markings on the aircraft.Aircraft cockpit interior provides a pilot's perspective during approach to an airport. The plane is descending toward a runway located on an island, surrounded by a large body of water. Through the windshield, a distant city skyline with numerous high-rise buildings is visible under clear blue skies. Inside the cockpit, digital displays show flight instruments: the left primary display features attitude indicators, altitude, and navigation data including "LOC" (localizer) and "G/S" (glideslope) for instrument landing. The right display shows a map with navigation aids and aircraft position. Control panels have labeled switches such as "HDG", "CRS1", "ALT SEL", "CRS2", and "BARO", indicating settings for heading, course, altitude selection, and barometric pressure. The scene depicts the final approach phase, with the runway clearly visible ahead, water surrounding the island, and the urban landscape in the distance.

The flight took me back to the coast, but not without flying over Mt. Washington once more. The wind, coming almost straight down the approach path, helped with the buttery-smooth landing in Portland.

A single-engine propeller aircraft ascends into the sky, its front section directly behind the sun which creates a bright, radiant glow around the fuselage. The plane has a classic fixed-wing design with a visible propeller at the front. It moves through an atmosphere filled with wispy high-altitude clouds scattered across a deep blue sky. Below, a thick blanket of fluffy white clouds stretches horizontally, partially obscuring the distant terrain. Beyond the cloud deck, snow-capped mountain ranges emerge, their peaks outlined against the horizon with a faint sheen of frost or ice. The scene conveys a serene flight above the earth, with the sun’s rays piercing through the plane’s rear and illuminating the cloud layers in a natural, glowing effect.A small single-engine propeller plane with a white fuselage and red tail section flies low over a snow-covered mountain peak (Mt. Washington). Its wings are level, and the aircraft appears to be descending toward the summit. The mountain is blanketed in snow, with patches of dark trees breaking through the white surface. A winding road cuts across the snowfield, leading toward the peak’s summit. Below, the landscape extends into distant valleys with dense forests and a winding river. Thick clouds partially obscure the surrounding peaks, while a bright blue sky with scattered clouds fills the upper portion of the scene. The overall setting suggests a cold, high-altitude environment with clear visibility except where clouds linger near the mountain slopes.A white turboprop aircraft marked with "TBM 930" on its tail fin in black and red lettering is in flight. The plane’s fuselage features a prominent red stripe along its side, contrasting with white and dark gray sections. Its cockpit windows reveal an interior with visible controls and instruments, and the nose points forward as it travels through the sky. The aircraft moves above a thick layer of white clouds, with the terrain below partially visible as a snowy landscape interspersed with dark blue patches of lakes or rivers. The surrounding sky is a bright blue with scattered, wispy clouds, and a small crescent moon is visible in the upper left. The plane’s wing, with a winglet and a red accent near the tip, is prominent, and the ground shows a textured mix of snow and water bodies. The overall scene captures the aircraft steadily navigating through the high-altitude environment, with the expansive sky and distant earth forming the backdrop.A white single-engine turboprop aircraft with a red stripe along its fuselage flies at a moderate altitude above a sprawling landscape. The plane’s wings extend horizontally, and its tail is visible, angled slightly upward as it moves forward through the air. Below, the terrain features vast expanses of dense green forest interspersed with patches of open land, likely fields or small settlements. Winding rivers cut through the forest, their surfaces glinting brightly from the sun’s reflection near the horizon. The sky above is a clear blue with scattered, fluffy white clouds, and the sun casts a sharp glare on the river’s surface. In the distance, the horizon fades into a hazy blend of more forest and low-lying clouds, creating a sense of depth in the scene.

#Daher #TBM 980 intro video. I don’t know for sure but it looks like the big new feature is the Garmin G3000 Prime avionics. It has the same engine as the 960. Of course like the 960 it has HomeSafe so it can find an appropriate airport, declare an emergency, and land itself if the pilot can’t. #aviation

Saint Pierre LFVP → St. Andrews Codroy Valley CDA5

After takeoff and a big 270° turn, I cruised straight over Miquelon-Langlade (remember the last season of Peaky Blinders?) heading northwest. Hugged Newfoundland’s south coast all the way to the island’s western tip, where the tiny St. Andrews Codroy Valley airstrip marked the day’s finish line.

A small airplane with a red stripe on its white fuselage is positioned centrally on a runway, its nose and wing lights glowing brightly against the snowy surface. Large white numerals “26” are painted prominently on the runway ahead of the aircraft. Thick fog dominates the scene, reducing visibility significantly and obscuring distant treelines, which appear as faint, hazy silhouettes. Snow covers the ground beyond the runway, with visible patches of icy texture on the asphalt. A low sun near the horizon emits a diffused orange glow, contributing to the muted, wintry atmosphere. The plane remains stationary, likely preparing for takeoff or taxiing within the fog-enshrouded airport. The surrounding landscape is blanketed in snow, creating a cold, serene environment with limited visual clarity due to the dense fog.A single-engine propeller aircraft with a white fuselage and a dark red stripe along its side flies through thick, low-lying clouds. Its propeller spins steadily, and the plane maintains a consistent altitude. The fog blankets the terrain below, obscuring most of the landscape except for faint outlines of distant mountains, a winding waterway, and a narrow strip of open land. Above, the sky features a mix of fluffy white clouds and a patch of brighter blue where the sun shines through, casting a soft golden glow. The dense mist creates a hazy, muted atmosphere, with the sun’s radiance visible through breaks in the cloud cover, illuminating the upper edges of the fog. The aircraft remains the central subject, navigating through the vapor as it moves over the obscured land, with the sun’s light filtering through the clouds and fog.A close-up view shows the wing tip section of a small aircraft in flight, with a cluster of lights on its forward tip and the white tail fin featuring red and black accents. The tail fin displays the text TBM 930 in bold black letters. The aircraft is traveling above a vast expanse of soft, fluffy white clouds, with a clear blue sky above. The sun is positioned near the tail, casting a bright glare and illuminating the scene with natural light. The overall setting conveys a smooth, steady flight at a high altitude, with the aircraft moving through the upper atmosphere.A small twin-engine aircraft, featuring a white fuselage with red accents on the tail and fuselage, is about to land on a paved runway. The runway displays prominent white centerline markings and a large white "18" identifier near the horizon line, signifying the runway number. The plane’s landing gear is fully extended. Surrounding the runway, expansive green fields stretch to the horizon: to the left, dense, uniform grass leads to rolling hills and distant mountains covered in lush greenery, while the right side includes grassy terrain with intermittent snow patches along the runway edge. A lone tree stands isolated on the left field, near the mountainous terrain, enhancing the rural atmosphere. The sky above is partly cloudy, with soft light filtering through the clouds, casting gentle shadows across the grass and runway surface. The overall scene conveys a tranquil, remote airfield environment with no visible activity, suggesting a quiet day at a secluded airport. Berlin/Brandenburg International EDDB → Leipzig/Halle EDDP

Back on the same route again, enjoying dusk under a beautiful sky and flying into the night.

This time there was a stunning view from above Berlin.

A single-propeller turboprop aircraft is centered on a runway under a dark nighttime sky. Its silhouette is visible from the rear, with wings and tail section distinct against the dim backdrop. The plane appears to be taxiing along the runway, which is illuminated by green centerline lights and white lights near its nose. The surrounding environment features a dark horizon with faint clouds and a subtle orange glow near distant mountains. On the left and right, airport infrastructure is visible: low-slung buildings with blue and white lights, and a control tower standing on the right. The sky above is starry with scattered clouds, and the overall lighting is minimal, dominated by the artificial glow of runway guidance systems and airport facilities. The scene captures the stillness of the night, with no visible movement beyond the airplane’s position on the runway.A small airplane flies above a sprawling city at night, its silhouette standing out against a twilight sky that fades from deep orange near the horizon to black above. The aircraft, with wings extended and a visible tail, moves steadily through the air. Below, the city glows with countless lights forming an intricate network of streets and buildings, creating a dense, illuminated landscape. Wisps of clouds drift beneath the plane, partially obscuring the city’s glow. The upper sky is pitch black, dotted with faint stars. The scene captures the quiet motion of the airplane against the vibrant backdrop of the lit metropolis and the transitional sky, where the last hues of daylight blend into night.A rear view of an aircraft cockpit interior. Two pilot seats face a central control panel with illuminated screens: one displays a green navigation map, two other work as primary flight display with attitude, speed and altitude indicators. Overhead, white panels feature embedded lighting fixtures and red safety signs with white text, including "DO NOT" visible on both sides. The cabin is dimly lit, with a dark exterior visible through the cockpit windshield. Smooth white walls, leather seats with seatbelts, and structural elements form the surrounding environment. The scene includes subtle blue and green lighting from the instruments and overhead panels, contributing to a focused, operational atmosphere typical of a flight deck.An aircraft cockpit during nighttime landing approach features multiple digital displays showing navigation parameters, altitude, and speed. The aircraft is aligned with a runway’s approach lights visible through the windshield, which extend toward the horizon under a dark sky. Below, scattered city lights illuminate an urban area near the airport, creating a glowing horizon. The control panel displays include labels such as CRS1, ALT SEL, HDG, APR, NAV, FD, ALT, VS, FDC, CRS2, BARO, and GND. The left screen shows LOC and GND indicators, the center screen displays a green terrain map with circular markers, and the right screen lists flight data. The instrument cluster indicates the aircraft’s position relative to the runway, with approach lights guiding the descent path. The surrounding environment is characterized by a starless night sky and illuminated urban infrastructure below.

Berlin/Brandenburg International EDDB → Leipzig/Halle EDDP

Today I flew with live weather, which unfortunately brought more rain than the snow that was actually observed.

I departed from runway 24R hoping for a nice view over the city, but it was covered by clouds most of the time.

Small propeller-driven airplane, stationary on a wet airport taxiway. Its landing lights are illuminated, casting bright, reflective beams on the rain-slicked surface. The action depicts the aircraft rolling on a taxiway to the departure runway. It's a a nighttime environment with a reddish-orange sky, light rain creating visible droplets in the air, a runway marked by a continuous yellow centerline and edge lights, distant airport infrastructure such as faintly lit buildings, and a yellow sign displaying the letter L on the left side of the horizon. The overall scene conveys a moody, atmospheric moment at an airport during inclement weather.A small aircraft is the central object, positioned toward the right side of the frame, emitting two strong, focused beams of light that extends forward and slightly downward. The action involves the aircraft projecting a bright, concentrated illumination, likely for search or navigation purposes. The context is a dark sky with scattered clouds, some of which are faintly illuminated by the beam or ambient light, suggesting low-light conditions such as twilight or an overcast night. The aircraft appears to be in flight, with the light beam creating a stark contrast against the muted, dark background, highlighting its role in enhancing visibility during reduced-visibility scenarios.A small propeller-driven aircraft is flying through a dynamic sky during sunset. The plane, with its wings extended, moves from left to right across the frame. Above, thick clouds glow in warm orange and pink hues, illuminated by the setting sun which casts a soft light through gaps in the cloud layer. Below, a darkened landscape features a winding waterway, possibly a river or coastal inlet, with darker landmasses on either side. Distant areas show faint outlines of terrain and subtle hints of human activity in the lower right. The overall scene conveys a serene yet dramatic aerial perspective as the aircraft navigates through the vibrant evening sky.A twin-engine propeller aircraft, likely a light jet, with a dark fuselage and red accent stripes on the tail and body, is in flight. It is positioned above a thick layer of clouds, which glow with vibrant pink, orange, and red hues due to the low sun during sunset or sunrise. The aircraft appears to be cruising, its underside illuminated by the warm light. The sky transitions from deep blue at the top to a soft orange near the horizon, with a full moon visible through the cloud cover below the plane. Below the clouds, a blurred cityscape with illuminated structures is partially visible. The overall scene is set during twilight, with the clouds creating a dramatic backdrop that enhances the aircraft’s presence as it moves through the sky.
