It's amazing the performance difference an SSD makes over a 5400 RPM HDD! Last night I did a transplant on a Lenovo U260. I't one of the first ultra-portable Windows computers, (correction released in 08, purchased 2011). It's an i5 processor with 4GB RAM, not upgradable. The battery died years ago, and never had much capacity.
I tackled the job with the attitude of "if I break it, not a huge loss". Everything went smoothly except the keyboard connection, which caused me at least an hour's grief. In the end, I got the tiny plastic retainer clipped on the cable connector. To my considerable surprise, everything worked on boot.
I didn't bother to migrate the data. I did a fresh install of #Tuxedo last night, and of #LinuxMint this morning. To Mint I added the full #KDE suite and #vivaldibrowser
Boot is about a third what it was. Vivaldi launches in about a tenth the time of before. This $100 update has extended the life of this old machine, to the point where It is now as functional as my Surface Book 2.
