A view looking out over tidy farmlands toward Mt Fuji on a spring day. In the foreground, a few wiry leafless trees stand on a hill; just below, rolling fields are carfeully divided into rectangular sections filled with rows of sprouting plants. Snow still clings to some of the spaces between the rows, and in the hollows of the hilltop. Beyond the fields, a house stands on a rise, commanding a good view of the farm; tall dark trees surround it on either side. A torii gate and the tops of other houses can be seen just beyond. Further on, the unmistakable sight of Mt Fuji dominates the horizon, the snowy flanks of the mountain contrasting against a sky tinted with warm orange and dusty rose-coloured clouds.

A view of the Ayase River on a snowy winter's day. The cold-looking Ayase river cuts down the middle of the image, and the banks on either side of the water are covered in a layer of fresh snow. A small open boat carrying cargo passes another similar boat moored by the riverbank, empty and unmanned. Further down the river, a traveller in a broad bamboo hat and what might be a straw cape crosses a short curved bridge spanning the water; snowy rooftops of houses and hazy shapes of trees stand nearby. Another pedestrian carries a bamboo umbrella as he walks along the right-hand bank, a dog following closely behind him. Tall leafless trees grow sporadically on that side of the river, their branches clotted with frost and snow. A trio of birds, reduced to silhouettes in the dim light, pass overhead. The sky is overcast and gloomy, and light snow continues to fall across the scene
