A koala is hanging onto the trunk of a tree amongst a bushel of leaves strapped to it. A eucalyptus leaf is hanging out of his mouth, and his face looks like he's been having a rough day.

A meerkat stands upright on a sandy surface. He stands watch, looking for the enemy that will never come.

A capybara stands at the edge of the water. He peers at his reflection before taking a sip and ponders whether he should go for a swim (he did).

A brush-tailed rock-wallaby is perched atop some rocks (who could have guessed). He looks over his shoulder, back towards the camera, as though he is a trained model.

Took the grandies (7 and 5) to Taronga Zoo for the day. 5:30 up, just got home at 20:00. Bloody long day, but Sydney harbour really turned it on. Beautiful weather for a beautiful harbour, and the zoo has improved out of sight since my first visit somewhere around 1967. Two exhausted grandies and two exhausted grandparents. A fantastic and fun day with no agro or meltdowns, not even by me!

For people who like #zoology and #zoos and #AnimalConservation there are several series from #NationalGeographic called "Secrets of the Zoo" on Disney plus. I don't watch much TV so I'm still working through the "Zoo Down Under" about #TarongaZoo in Sydney Australia.
It's very cool. Lots of segments about veterinary, diet, conservation and training/enrichment work at the zoo. Also many cool animals up close.

A lyrebird has been caught mimicking the ‘evacuate now’ siren at Sydney's Taronga Zoo.

The native Australian bird has the ability to accurately mimic almost any sound it hears, with an evacuation triggered less than two weeks ago when lions escaped from their enclosure.
