I was recently talking with a NZ business man I know (of my age) about advice on the possibility of doing business with someone they also knew.

I was absolutely astounded when he casually said yeah he might be worth approaching, unfortunately he is very Jewish.

Out of nowhere I said Wow, I haven't heard that particular smear since I was in primary school.

Which now, looking back, seems why it is so important to include #TeTiritiOWaitangi history and te reo as part of NZ school's education and celebrate the multiples of ethnicity's, cultures, faiths and languages. Children learning and understanding about the people in their communities and everyday lives is critical for a united country. This Te Ao with Moana piece is a very powerful, sad and beautiful story about the small RSA club in Te Teko, Mātaamua, deciding to break away from the national #RSA (Royal New Zealand Returned and Services' Association founded in 1916 by returning #ANZAC 's) because they refuse to recognise #TeTiritiOWaitangi in the RSA constitution.

Was quite emotional to watch remembering my pākehā uncle telling me, as a kid when I stayed on his farm, that he felt shame and guilt about being given the land for his farm on land confiscated from his best mate's iwi while his best mate got nothing after they returned from fighting together in WW2.

Here in Aotearoa it's #WaitangiDay, which is an official public holiday. It's dedicated to the governing arrangements created for these islands, as documented by Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and it's English translation, The Treaty of Waitangi.

It's an ongoing cause of political conflict here that the two documents, although broadly similar, say some very different things in the specific wording. This becomes quickly obvious to anyone who learns enough Te Reo Māori to read both.
