The riveting tale of how the original Macintosh's screen resolution was decided by the ancient art of dart-throwing at numbers.🎯💻 Apparently, 512x324 was the magic combo because 512x384 was just too mainstream for 1984.🤓✨

Before malware, ransomware, and state-sponsored cyberattacks, there was the Creeper virus. Created in 1971 by Bob Thomas, Creeper wasn’t designed to cause harm. Instead, it hopped between computers on ARPANET, displaying the message: "I’m the creeper, catch me if you can!" It was more of an experiment than a threat, but it led to the creation of Reaper, the first antivirus software, which sought out and removed Creeper. Today, the stakes are much higher, but it all started as a harmless joke.

In 1903, as Guglielmo Marconi prepared to showcase his "secure" wireless telegraph at the Royal Institution, the demonstration was suddenly hijacked. Instead of Marconi’s message, the machine tapped out "Rats" in Morse code, followed by crude poetry mocking his security claims.
The culprit was Nevil Maskelyne, a stage magician and radio expert who knew Marconi’s system wasn’t as secure as advertised. Using his own transmitter, he exposed its vulnerabilities, marking the first recorded instance of hacking and signal hijacking.

When Linus Torvalds uploaded his new operating system to an FTP server in 1991, he named it "Freax" (a mix of "free," "freak," and "Unix"). The server admin, Ari Lemmke, thought "Freax" was unappealing and listed it as "Linux" instead. Linus didn’t mind, and the name stuck. Decades later, Linux powers everything from smartphones to supercomputers.
Just imagine if the name Freax stuck.
