Beautiful and insightful. Listened to the abridged version because it was what I had easy access to. I'll reserve writing a review for if and when I read the full version, but even this short version has value for anyone wishing to look more deeply into Thích Nhất Hạnh's advice for everyone to be deeply rooted in their own tradition(s).

This was part of a biennial retreat, with daily lectures from #Thay (his familiar name). Every day he taught us about Zen Buddhist #psychology, and it was so profound a group of teachings I want to try to retell some.

He spoke of consciousness having a mind part –linked to intellect– and a slower part called the store consciousness, literally like a store cupboard full of seeds. Some seeds are positive, like joy, awareness, calm or love, and some are negative like anger, hate, fear or sadness…

No Gurus!
But this one walks like falling leaves,
each step gentle,
happy as a sun bear.

No Heroes!
But a warrior still -
a tiger of peace,
bathed in a sea of clouds.

We thought life had no room for such a path

When we are tired and feel discouraged by life's daily struggles, we may not notice these miracles, but they are always there.
