Sueño-pesadilla (aka peseño) es la inesperada transustanciación -casi completada- de Zac Efron en Michael Landon bro style. Drag king. Jamás lo hubiese vaticinado Nostradamus, qué digo, ni siquiera Aramis, la número uno.
Pese a ser un filme de 2023, fue durante el pasado año cuando El clan de hierro se asentó en el circuito cinéfilo. Recaló gratamente en gran parte de los medios especializados. Ganó premios, nominaciones (que son incluso mejores), y apareció en muchas listas de las películas imprescindibles del año. Esas listas.
En noviembre llegó al VOD y en diciembre me dije que qué podía pasar. Pues que ya me la sabía sin haberla visto. La vi venir -se veía venir- y no inventaba nada. Un telefilme con buenos acabados.
El clan de hierro permite un visionado mirando el teléfono y luego decir que has visto una peli interesante. Es Soñé con África (2000) casi un cuarto de siglo después y con la testosterona disparada. Bestias de ring. Un melodrama contenido (aka un dramón) basado en hechos reales.

Un padre castrador escudado en el asqueroso espíritu deportivo (eufemismo de competitividad, de ser más que el resto, de renunciar para destacar) proyectando sus frustradas aspiraciones en sus hijos (analfabetos emocionales) ejerce de madrastra Disney. O de empresario del deporte con su propia S.L. familiar, creada con sus cojones y dirigida por ellos. Un personaje malo malísimo, sin claroscuros, como solo puede ser un personaje malo. Se echa en falta un mayor protagonismo de Harris Dickinson, su interpretación sobresale.
La (re)creación de Sean Durkin es tan funcional que parece pagado de sí mismo. Me pregunto si coescribiendo el guion el largo se hubiera realzado: curiosamente en un punto tan clave trabajó solo. Aquí hay que diferenciar funcional de lograda.

I was made to start thinking back on #TheIronClaw earlier today, thanks to me happening to re-listen to the film’s anthemic original song, ‘Live That Way Forever’, and I damn near burst into tears right there on the public bus upon remembering the line: “you must be my older brother Jack.” 😭

Trying not to be nitpicky while watching #TheIronClaw but the grandmother's name was not Von Erich. Stu Hart gave Jack Adkisson the name, Bill Mercer wasn't as buff as Michael J. Harney and they did not end up on ESPN until the late 80s.
