i just had a realization about how infinitely fucked up the lottery really is and i'm never getting over this i fear.
what do you mean the only way to improve your social standing in this culture is by getting more money, except wages are suppressed so there's no upward mobility through hard work and classes are segregated so there's no upward mobility through marriage. but there's a solution: you can buy a ticket for a rare chance at a one-time payment that could lift you to new social heights, that could free you from the shackles of debt, could get you out of the place you have to run from, could feed your starving children, could heal you broken body, could open up countless doors. all you have to do is keep spending what little money you have to buy the ticket.
it sounds like something out of a black mirror episode but no it's real and it's the current social system in the united states.
