Finally got around to watching The OA. I finished the final episode last night. It's weird and wonderful.
I do wonder who the target audience is, tho. Remove the two sex scenes and this might be perfect for a young adult audience.

Bonus: the young #transgender character is more than his gender. Buck is a part of the group. His #gender isn't a plot device. He just exists.
We need more of this.

#WritersCoffeeClub December 12th: Do you have a favourite author? Is your style influenced by them?

Murakami’s use of just enough magic to trigger a counter-cultural dream-like spiral into grand conspiracy is pretty close to my idea of a perfect story. I’ve read all his books and have similar writing goals but struggle to say he’s my fav. Douglas Adams was an early fav but I’m less committed to him. Same for Margaret Atwood and Michael Ondaatje. #TheOA is a perfect story to my eye if TV counts.

I’m convinced my favourite show, #TheOA, either created or used an existing piece of art as the outline for their mind-bending multidimensional storyline. It’s inspired me to do the same but I’ve already got the next few projects plotted. A lot of my writing is inspired by the landscape but I can’t say any images/paintings in particular.

#WordWeavers 25: SC POV: How would the story be different if it was from your POV?

This story is told entirely through the subtext behind the stories in a literary magazine that the SC is the editor of. So in a way it already is. But if he were to straight-up be the author he would focus on the context surrounding the actual events and speculate wildly about said events rather than report on them all in the style of The #XFiles or #TheOA while completely ignoring reality because it’s boring.
