Vandaag heb ik de voorpremiere gezien van The Old Oak van regisseur Ken #Loach. Het is een prachtige #film over een oud mijnwerkersstadje in Engeland, met als zijn problemen. Als er Syrische vluchtelingen arriveren gaat een deel van de bewoners helemaal los, zeg maar de stemmers op de rechter flank.

#TheOldOak è il solito Ken Loach (in senso buono): lucido, audace e senza compromessi nell'affrontare di petto un problema complesso (l'immigrazione, stavolta) sotto una lente politica e di lotta di classe mai banale.
A livello narrativo non funziona tutto, alcuni personaggi e sottotrame emergono e scompaiono un po' a caso e il finale sospeso non funziona come in Sorry We Missed You, ma il #cinema ha bisogno di film così intelligenti, anche quando non del tutto riusciti.
#TheOldOak ist ein besonderer Ort: Es ist nicht nur der letzte Pub, sondern auch der einzig verbliebene öffentliche Raum, in dem sich die Menschen der einst blühenden, nordenglischen Bergbaugemeinde Easington treffen. Nach 30 Jahren des Niedergangs stehen diesem Ort noch härtere Zeiten bevor.

I went to the cinema to see The Old Oak by Ken Loach with people from the British Cultural Center where my son takes English classes.
It's moving. It shockingly depicts contrasts but also similarities between the Syrian refugees sent to this Northern England village and the local population.
The core message is about hope. If I have to be honest it was a bit annoying to listen to some people reviewing it as idealistic afterwards.
