.. and suddenly I find myself back in the #90s where we saw the future of home computing unfold before our eyes. The #PC - a bulky expensive machine for boring tunaheads running WordPerfect suddenly got graphics and sound that didn't suck.
Young aspiring programmers (that would be coders for you young people) wrote code in assembler and made the PC do thing it was never meant to. Awesome things. Things that blew your mind. Some wrote trackers for composing sample based music, and suddenly everyone could compose music on their PC.
The level of optimism and creativity was mind blowing, and I feel so incredibly lucky for having been a part of it. Sure, our demos were too horrible to be shown on the big screen, but we did submit at least one for #TheParty back in '92 or '94.
I miss the 90s.
This, by the way, is a sweet #Pentium 200MMX system with #PicoGUS, #SoundBlaster Vibra16 and an #TsengLabs #ET6000 graphics card (that's GPU for you young'uns).

The Party (Blake Edwards, 1968, avec Peter Sellers dans le rôle de Hrundi V Bakshi) est un film fétiche pour moi, le film qui m’a le plus fait rire depuis que je l’ai vu à la télé il y a très très longtemps. Je l’ai vu 100 fois, et il m’a 100 fois fait rire comme une baleine (je ris comme une baleine, mes amis se moquent de moi pour ça). Je le connais trop, depuis qu’il y a des DVD et des blu-ray. Je ris un peu moins. Mais je l’aime encore. C’est selon moi clairement un pastiche de Playtime sorti un an plus tôt, et Playtime film immense est un plus grand film, bien sûr, mais The Party, le film sur la différence, les insiders et les outsiders qui bien sûr font tache dans le tableau, est un film formidable !
En ressortant mon blu-ray, je me demandais si on accepterait encore que ce soit Peter Sellers qui joue (à merveille) le rôle de cet Indien égaré à Hollywood, qui tente désespérément de bien se tenir en commettant toutes les catastrophes imaginables, malgré sa bonne volonté. Il n’y aucune trace de racisme à propos des Indiens (selon moi), et il fait toujours de son mieux, comme dans le burlesque Buster Keaton fait toujours de son mieux, par exemple. Je crois quand même que Peter Sellers en Hrundi V Bakshi, ça ne serait plus possible, et ça m’emmerde un peu…

Almost like a stage play made for the screen. This is a phenomenal black-dramedy. There is not one bad performance, from an absolutely stacked cast. The staging & direction at the hands of Sally Potter is fantastic. Satire at its pure brilliance. Invoking its ire at politics, intellectualism, crisis of personality and relationships, it is still an apt film to view. If that doesn't intrigue you, a coked-out Cillian Murphy steals the show.
